OYEZ OYEZ

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Be it known throughout all lands near and far that the Archduchess of Brandenburg declares her intention to hold a Fait d' armes on the 28th Day of December, in the Archduchy of Brandenburg of the Empire of Adria for the occasion of the Birthday of His Grace, Sir Arion Hirsch von Schutzhundheim. Here do we announce further our intention to celebrate in arms the elements of prowess and deeds of chivalry by both joust and melee. In celebration of His Grace's penchant for the wager, the tournament theme shall be "Faveat fortuna" - Let fortune favor. Lady Fortuna shall be our patroness for the day.

Conduct of the Tournament

Item: The court shall be called by the heralds and pursuivants, dressed in their coats of arms. And then each tourneyer, armed with his weapons if he is a Knight, and gently dressed, without armor, a lance or baton in his hand, shall present himself to the Duke and Duchess of Brandenburg. And he should have attendants with him, who should carry his banner if he should have one.

Item: Each tourneyer shall be announced and shall proclaim to the Court what Virtue of Chivalry is responsible for good Fortune.

The oath that the judges take from the princes, lords, barons, knights and squires at the tourney is as follows:

The judges' herald will say to the tourneyers:

High and powerful princes, lords, barons, knights and squires, each and every one of you, please raise your right hand on high, towards the saints, and all together, as you will in the future, promise and swear by the faith and promise of your body, and on your honor, that you will strike none of your company at this tourney knowingly with the point of your sword, or below the belt, and that no one will attack or draw on anyone unless it is permitted, and also that if by chance someone's helm falls off, no one will touch him until he has put it back on, and you agree that if you knowingly do otherwise you will lose your arms and horses, and be banished from the tourney; also to observe the orders of the judges in everything and everywhere as they order delinquents to be punished without argument; and also you swear and promise this by the faith and promise of your body and on your honor.

To which they will answer. "Yes, yes."

Item: The tourney shall be called by the heralds and pursuivants, crying before the tourneyers: "To honor, lords, knights and squires! to honor! to honor!" and this shall be the call to arm and prepare for the tournament.

Item: The Sword Oath shall be administers by the judges on the field to all tourneyers.

Item: The Lady Fortuna shall match the challengers for the first round.

Item: The first pass shall be a melee with choice of weapons. When all are on the field and ready, the Captains of each Company shall call out a Challenge.

Item: When the two sides are arranged as if for battle and ready for the melee the king of arms should make another cry:

Hear Ye, Hear Ye, Hear Ye.My lords the judges pray and require that none of you gentlemen tourneyers beat another with the point or back of the sword, nor below the belt, as you have promised, nor strike nor draw unless it is permitted; and also that none of you attack anyone whose helm falls off until he has put it on again, and also that none of you beat anyone more than anyone else, unless it is someone who, for his sins, has been singled out for this.
Lay On!

Item: Rebated weapons will be used, no weapons of war shall be allowed upon the field.

Item: Lady Fortuna shall draw the weapons for each challenge. These shall be matched.

Item: Challenges shall be to 3 counted blows received.

Item: When each tourneyer has lost two matches, they shall be removed from the list.

Item: After the final pass there will follow another melee à plaisance au béhourd fought with sword or poleaxe only to the count of 3 blows.

Item: The Herald shall cry when the tournament has ended and the tourneyers
must retreat to disarm and prepare for closing court.

Item: The Winners of each List (Arts, Shinai, Renn, Steel) shall be announced at Court along with the contest winners for the day. The Archduke shall present a Prize to the tourneyer who shows the greatest prowess and gallantry for all feats of arms throughout the day. This will be based on the one best representing not only Prowess, but the other Virtues of Chivalry.

Item: Lady Fortuna shall present a prize to the lord or lady of the Gallery or Judge who has wagered the best.
