Yes, this is the combat side of the board, but believe it or not, this is a combat related question of sorts. Here is my question:
In the SCA I have a name/device/badge all in the submission process. Obviously, since they are still in the 'process' I do not feel proper using them until I get 100% clearance. So, which would you use until the items pass? My options are:
Kingdom badge
Shire badge
Plain solid color

I would not wear the kingdom badge in a tournament. I would wear it in a war unless I was fighting as a unit with say for example my shire in which case I would wear their badge. If however I was fighting with a unit, I would make it a point to wear the colors of the unit.
When fighting for myself (in a tournament) I would wear a solid color.
One of the things I've always wanted to see is a properly arrayed feudal host.
1) The king, heir and their guard in kingdom colors.
2) The landed barons and their forces in the colors of their lands.
3) Shires and cantons either in their colors or in the colors of the barony that they belong to.
4) Households in their colors if fighting as a unit.
5) All recognized units bearing their field banners on the field.
I would make the banner bearers inviolate but if the unit is destroyed the banner is lost along with any "prisoner" banners. A war point could go to the side holding more of the other army's banners at the end of the battle.
Just something I thought would be fun.

I imagine that you are using the name you are hoping wil pass, I would go ahead and use the arms you have submitted until you either learn that they have been bounced, or someone comes to you directly and says something about them conflicting with someone elses (theirs for instance) If you have conflict checked against the sca armorial and are pretty certain that they are clear then you should not have any trouble, unless someone else has submitted a similar device at around the same time you did.
And conflicting arms are perfectly period - according to my consulting herald.

I'd go with your own 'livery colors' - the primary colors of your device. During my years as Baronial Pursuivant, I advised people who'd had their devices well-checked for conflict before submission to display it - if the heraldic staff has done their job well, it will likely pass, and why play for a year w/o heraldry? (Just don't do the embroidered tabard or banner, the stained-glass window, or the tattoo until it officially passes...

Your shire, unless you are part of the King's retinue.
My 2 cents.
