Quick question - it is particularly difficult to add a thrusting tip to an already completed SCA sword, or should it really all be done at the same time? I have my first sword ready to tape, and since I am still authorizing, I am not bothering with thrusting yet. But I will in the future. Also, any tips on putting thrusting tips together?

do it now before you tape the whole mess.

Here in the Mid Realm thrusting is included in your first authoization now.

So keep practising and get your thrusts safe, and go get auth'ed!

Low profile tips are pretty easy to put on. You will have to redo the edge tape, but other than that, it's a piece of cake.

I take a 1.25" wide strip of closed cell foam and roll it until it is the same diameter as the sword I'm going to put it on. I tape it closed with strapping tape. Then I tape it on with strapping tape, putting a couple of extra pieces across the striking edge. This as is will last a couple of practices. For longevity, I add a 1" wide strip of 5 oz leather along the striking edge, and strap this on well. Sarnac has suggested using a strip of silk; strong as the leather, but doesn't add to the tip weight as much. Cover with duct tape and contrasting colour. This makes a fairly stiff tip that usually has enough give to pass inspection; for a tip with more give, start with a wider strip of foam.
