Full gauntlet purchase
A post over on the classified section made me think about the following:
Are full gauntlets one piece of armour you should NOT buy without first physically trying them on (i.e. buy at an event rather than online)? I welcome any and all comments...

I think it depends on the know skill level of the maker. I bought some on ebay that were suppose to fit me but they rubbed hard on the back of my hand and the connecter for the hand and wrist was too big for me to do greatsword, when I do certain historic guards the connecter dug into my hand and wrist. On the other hand there are makers I would trust to do it by measurements.

If you're talking fit and function, your best bet is to either
a) buy off the table
or
b) buy from someone like Sasuke or McPherson
If your talking reliability of delivery and customer service...
Well, the only good gauntlet maker I've heard of with reputable service is Sasuke.
My advice, go with Sasuke or off the table.

I agree with Jean Paul. I purchased a pair of Waldryk gauntlets, which were very nice, very well made and pretty. However, they were shaped completely wrong for my hands. Sasuke helped me refit them with thumbs and a different cuff, but they still don't ride my hands right. I'm going to end up selling them and making a pair from scratch most likely. (when's a good weekend, Sasuke? I can make some for you to sell as low-grade munitions as well...hehe)
Try before you buy with gaunts, even moreso than with a helm... or go with an expert fitter.

I agree with what others have said. Buy off the table if you can. You are sure of the fit and the quality that way. Plus, there is no wait.
If you are going to buy from someone online, DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Just because someone has a nice looking website does not mean they will ever actually get anything made for you.
Ask around for opinions every place you can think of.
The more recent dealings are best. Someone who had a great rep. 5 years ago may no longer. First hand accounts are also best.
Customer service is a key thing in this business in my opinion. Ask what their guarantees and repair/replacement policies are. Actually, should ask that of booth merchants as well.
Sasuke
P.S. DrTuba, this weekend would be fine. Also the first and last weekends in July I think.
