I cut a chef's knife in half

I cut a chef's knife in half

Yep, I sure did! I used a dremel knockoff with a cut off wheel and cut the tip off a 99 cent store chef's knife in an attempt to make myself a brokeback seax.

I'll post pictures of the steps eventually.

Answers to questions before they're asked:
1. I'm doing this myself because I'm too cheap to buy one from the craftsmen that sell here.
2. I shopped around for knifes that had a handle that, in my mind, looked medieval for close to six months. Every time I found a handle I considerred passible the blade was too flexible (like a boning knife is). I eventually saw the 99 cent store knife and it fit all my requirements.
3. "Dremmel" tool with a cutoff wheel because it's what I had! And I wanted to do this without a whole lot of input.
4. My barony has several accomplished knife makers who could help me make a nice blade. And I may do that in the future. But this is a project by me, for me.

I don't think that's how chef knifes are supposed to be used, you cut other things with them.

Tonight I sanded the cut edge. It's a little wavy but smooth as a babies butt. I had a bad idea turn into a real bad idea, when I tried sanding the flat of the blade to get rid of the mirror finish. Even with that, I'm quite happy and plan on doing a few more as gifts.

Pictures as promised:

The blade which also clearly shows the mistakes (and the sharpie I haven't removed yet.

The whole knife, and a dollar for size referrence. The handle is obviously modern, but has a medieval look IMO.

I think this one shows how nice the cut off portion ended up.

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit. -Aristotle
