A Deed of Arms at Mudthaw

Post by Urdok »

The background:

Last summer, I had planned to attend and fight in The Challenge of the Seneschal of Hainault at Pennsic. A week before I was due to leave, a previously unknown cardiac arrhythmia blossomed into systolic heart failure, and I spent a week in the hospital and two months recovering before I was allowed to take the field again. It is now eight months later. I am recovered, and I hope to be in the shape I was in prior to Pennsic this year.

However, I am wounded by the knowledge that I made a commitment to meet a challenge of arms, and I was forced to abandon that commitment. It is hurtful to my pride and my sense of self and demands recompense. So, at the start of this year, I made a promise to myself- at every SCA event I attend, I will attempt the deed I was unable to complete at Pennsic. Mudthaw, on March 28, will be my first event of the year.

The Deed:

The Deed was to be fought in two parts. The first was to be nine pushes of lance in rounds of three. The second was to be fought with axes until one fighter can no longer continue.

I am seeking a person willing to join me in this endeavor so that I may assuage my injured honor. I propose the first portion be fought with nine foot fiberglass spears and the second with matched weapons. Though I can provide a set of axes, the weapons form chosen for the second portion does not matter to me, provided the weapons are roughly matched. I have a collection of axes and pollaxes to work with and I may be able to borrow a long or great sword, should that be your choice.

I intend to fight this deed after the tournament as I have no wish to handicap the gentle who fights me in that endeavor.

Help me hold to my vow and meet me on the field of Mudthaw when the tournament is finished.
