Stolen Armor @ Border Raids (OFFSITE)

I thought it would never happen to me, but I was the victim of theft over the weekend. Note that this theft happened OFFSITE and I am fully under the impression that it was NOT a member of the SCA who is responsible. So here's the story:

I get to the site early on Friday to help my shire (Crimson River) do some setup work. Get my tent site setup, meetup with a friend, and decide to drive ten minutes to a Long John Silver's to have lunch. He spies the large tote (5ft x2ft x2ft) in the back of my truck and says, "Do you want to leave this here in your tent?

Tempting fate, I say, "Nah, noone here to watch it, it might get stolen..."

So we go into town and eat. When we come out of LJS, the tailgate of my truck is down and there is no tote.

Insert sickening feeling here.

Checked on the road too and fromt he campsite a million times, but I am almost 100% sure that the tailgate was up and the tote was in my truck when we got to LJS. So to make a long story short, all of my functioning armor and every drop of garb I own is gone.

I'll post a short summary of things that were in the tote, but honestly most of it is generic enough that it looks like most everything else you may see. Also, I don't believe I have any shots of me wearing the major stuff, haven't had it or used it long enough:

--White Bat armory back pointed bascinet with bargrill, w/verveilles installed along bottom
--Knuut stainless/welded/flattened aventail
--2 Big Boy tunics (one blue, one black) from Adric13 at Linengarb.com
--3 homeade tunics (royal blue longsleeve, tan shortsleeve, black with thin stripes short sleeve)
--brown brand name engineer style boots (cant remember the brand offhand)
--denim and white plastic CoP
--Stainless 3-lame spaulders from Stonekeep
--Two completed rattan swords (one with Baldur plastic hilt, one with random heavy steel basket hilt)
--Lots of pants (lol)
--Generic 3 lame knees attached to leather cuisses
--Generic splinted right arm with 5 lame steel cop
--Generic leather left arm with aluminum cop

There were various other items in the box, but most of it is unimportant. Just wanted to pass thing along in case someone spots stuff on Ebay or Craigslist in their browsing and the package of stuff matches the description. I'm not really expecting to get any of it back. I will miss that helmet and aventail, however; they were the pride of my armor collection. I was working on some other armor to match the helmet and thankfully I left that armor at home!

Thanks to everyone that lent me garb at Border Raids and to all the wonderful people (friends, associates, and strangers alike!) that offered to give me or make me garb/armour. I was very disheartened and nearly just gave up on the event until the outpouring of support convinced me to stay and help out in a non-fighting capacity.

This really is a great organization. Now to get back into it...

That explains why you were not in armour. :(

If you can find a picture of your helm, post it. That will probably be the most identifiable piece.

Did you file a police report?

I hate this stuff. The worst part is... they aren't going to be able to use it, or really be able to sell it. All they do is keep you from having it.

It may be worth putting in a call to scrap metal places in the area.

It is a bag of heavy things, probably tools, grab it and run...

And it may be in a dumpster or a ditch nearby.

Sorry it took so long to post again, been working a lot since I got back. To answer some questions:

--No, I did not file a police report yet, I need to contact my insurance provider first and haven't been able to yet due to the aforementioned work.
--@Baron A: Yeah, I thought the same and checked some local dumpsters, but no such luck.
--still checking EBay and Craigslist, no luck yet.
--Yes, they are dicks.

I do have a shot of the helmet on Facebook, I'll post the link but don't know how to show pics off Facebook.

I would think that one of the first questions the insurance company would ask would be "Did you file a police report?"

Just figured it out, Thomas, thanks for the help though. I have attached the picture of the helmet and circled it in red:

The black along the bottom is the leather piece over the vervelles that hod the aventail on.

@Baron A: Insurance does require police reports, but I was waiting to see if my insurance was even going to cover anything due to the fact it was int he back of my trucka nd technically "unprotected." Similar to having things stolen from a car you left the doors unlocked to (which I've seen insurance not cover in the past).

If insurance won't cover it, I'm not sure if it is even worth filing a police report for. Though they might have randomly found it after someone dumped it. Hmmmmmmm.
