And then I remembered how much I enjoy it...

So it came to pass that the most awesome Barony of Bright Hills in Atlantia, put together one of the most fun yearly events, the "Crescent Guard Games", so called because of the Crescent Argent that graces the Barony's armory. ( http://www.brighthills.net/ ). The Crescent Guard Games are a 3 day all target archery event, with camping and superb food and bardic.
Amazingly, I was able to tear myself away from mundane responsibilities and even take my oldest daughter with me. I have to add than in the recent couple of years I dedicated most of my SCA time to fighting or fighting fitness or armoring, so my target archery was sadly neglected. This event reminded me of how much I enjoy Target archery, and though I don't see myself doing CA (unless I become unable to fight due to injury) I had forgotten how much I enjoyed shooting my bow. An extra treat was to see my daughter do a quantum leap and jump from a baby bow to a youth bow, and actually hit targets rather nicely.
I am lucky enough to have an archery range some 2 miles from my house, and our local SCA archery practice on Sunday morning, so I can even take my daughters and watch them (which I cannot do in a heavy fighting practice)
Even if your main thing is heavy fighting, you may want to consider picking up a target bow and a few arrows and do some target practice. You may enjoy it as much as I do.
If you are concerned that your SCA status or image may be affected (i.e. diminished) by the activity, please read this essay. http://www.blackmoonarchery.com/War%20a ... atus-1.pdf )
