This time we had invited a local Chinese martial arts club that practices Miao Dao, a kind of Chinese 2 handed longsword, to participate and it was a good exchange between us!

Throw a sword? Doesn't seem to be a good tactic, because you disarm yourself . . .

Flying sword is definitely a special case, not good for every situation. For example, if you only have 1 opponent, or/and if you are not limited to 1 sword, or/and if the sword is retractable through a rope tied to the hilt, it won't be that "unwise".
Sometimes it's worth the risk, especially if the opponent is armed with polearms when one has only a sword to deal with.

It all depends on the circumstances. It's not a good-for-all tactic.

http://youtu.be/kpIwlh4ArC8Sparring with a swordswoman (a young one actually) from the Miao Dao Club, who also trained in Kendo and Toyama Ryu. She came over with the intention to spar more and to accumulate experience from sparring, thus I gave her over 70 rounds of sparring.

Oh Porthos..... You have found a new way to disarm yourself.
