Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
I'm sure they didn't have a lot of time to train in 21v21. It requires different skills than even the 5v5 and would need a lot of large group training time. I'm sure that next year they'll do much better as there will be a lot more people getting involved with the publicity this year.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
I think a lot of the teams there, just didnt have at least 21 fighters. If you look at the draw for the 5 on 5, most of the countries are represented.

It's hard not to armchair quarterback on some of this stuff. OTOH, it's potentially useful to make observations about what we're seeing happen and what adaptations might be helpful.
And, overall, this whole emprise is a heroic one, no matter what the outcome and those of us who are at our homes watching can only honor those who have done more.

I saw that but wasn't sure if he tripped on an opponent or a fallen comrade.Aaron wrote:Yep. I saw Team USA fighters running to fight somebody, and end up being tripped by the person they passed. It was just a foot stuck out and the fighter was on the ground. Simple, effective and not taught in our SCA style.
Well, even if the melee didn't go too well for team USA at least they have done well in the single battles and I think they are making a good first impression.

My guess is they are having a lot of fun as well!

Aye Aye, Kilkenny.
Whats up next, or are they done. I woke up late, so wasnt sure if the 1 v1 Professional fights had happened yet or not.

YesFinn O'Shannon wrote:K, I am going to have to put a kit together for this. Even if I never get overseas for it, I can at least be an extra body for those who can to practice against. Guess time to actually look hard at the armor and under armor requirements and talk to Jackie and some other armorers.
And yes again.jester wrote:More Western tradition fighting practice is needed. I'm just waiting for the team to start putting together practice melees using SCA weapons and BoN rules.
Me, I want to go over even if all I can do is warm a bench and shade the good fighters from the sun with a flag.

I _think_ the professional fights are up next. Zach Most (Gaston de Clermont of Ansteorra) is listed as fighting today.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
I'd like to train as the "sparring partner" for the 21 vs 21 and the 5 vs 5 teams, if we start having those stateside. I think rattan would work rather than steel though for the sparring with teams. It looks like mostly wrestling.
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Video is up and live I think.
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Team USA is up again. I think this is the many teams battle.
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
DVD with commentary would be great. Yes, I said it once and I'll say it again. DVD with commentary would be great.
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Wow! That was chaos. I was laughing (with not at) because of the chaos.
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team

Now they just did 3v3.. not sure what's going on.

Pickups?
I saw one of Team USA dogpiled by three others, but he was still on his feet...but when he was tripped to the ground he took an opponent with him.
DVD please! With commentary!

It looked over, then what appeared to be a random fight broke out in the back. Not exactly sure what happened.

Maybe it's just pickup fights?
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Might have been. Plenty of cheering going on.

Pretty sure it's pickup fights. Could be valuable experience.

I don't know if it is Pro Fights, or pickups. I think pickups would be invaluable for getting as much experience fighting those guys as possible.
Hopefully when they produce the show the English narrator doesn't translate the interviews with our guys too

Though she is quite fetching and trying to show that a tank top, tight pants and heels are historically correct. To the A&S competition!

Anyone know how the winner of a "Pro" fight is decided?

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
The Pro Fights look like a fighter practice, with the locked down, unattended camera on a view so wide you can't seem much of what they are doing.
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
It appears that kicking is legal in the pro fights. Didn't see any of that this morning.

Nice shield strike. Of course, then they wandered off camera.

Is whoever was dancing done fighting? Or is that yet to come today?
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
USA is up right now.
At least, I think so. He ran out, was announced and did a weird little dance.
This would be a second weirld little dance. Not the dance from earlier.
Are we trying to intimidate them with jazz hands?
