I'm curious about how the SCA's version of chivalry ( the attitude ) is gonna work in this....jester wrote:Is it unchivalrous that my first thought was, step on the cape?

From the roster:

Jade is Jade Dauser, that's easy enough.
Which ones are Felix and Lucan?
With thanks,

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
One more time, God Bless Team USA and may they come back mostly uninjured.
When Team USA shows up at Pennsic, I bet they could swim in the beer that they will be offered (and have a deep end for Olympic diving).

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
I watched as much of the fighting as I could on my phone at work.
I had a hard time follow the score? And my polish is bad.
Does anyone know how are guys did?

K, I am going to have to put a kit together for this. Even if I never get overseas for it, I can at least be an extra body for those who can to practice against. Guess time to actually look hard at the armor and under armor requirements and talk to Jackie and some other armorers.

I believe Jaye(Lucan) and jade are still undefeated. I believe it was Scott(Felix) who just lost a few minutes ago. They are about to start the 21 v 21 I think.Gebhard wrote:I watched as much of the fighting as I could on my phone at work.

Which is where their SCA training is going to hurt them. Not being used to that type of engagement.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Yeah, I think maybe over here it would've been hard to train at first, cause you think thats a last resort style. So we might of trained to hit folks. Where in reality, that might be the main thing to do over there. Now we see how they want to play it, I am sure we will adjust.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
More Western tradition fighting practice is needed. I'm just waiting for the team to start putting together practice melees using SCA weapons and BoN rules.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
I bet most of Team USA played football and will adjust to the blindside tackle. Most of them weight 300 lbs (or more) in armour so the blindside tackle should hit harder than any weapon they carry. Hardest I was ever hit was from the Bloodgaurd. They caught me looking elsewhere and I took a pile-driver header over a haybail wall. Nobody has ever hit me with even 1% of the force with a weapon.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
The goal is to get the other guy on the ground either by submission or throw/grapple. Not something trained for outside that rules set. I'm sure they will get the hang of it.Finn O'Shannon wrote:Yeah, I think maybe over here it would've been hard to train at first, cause you think thats a last resort style. Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Swords are almost useless in this. Shields are far more useful for bashing. Teamwork, and football linebacker training are what is needed here. Training on a blocking sled is more important here than a pell.

It's called either the Combat of the Thirty or Tuchux rules depending on the ratio of steel to leather.jester wrote:More Western tradition fighting practice is needed. I'm just waiting for the team to start putting together practice melees using SCA weapons and BoN rules.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Scott Frappier (Duke Felix) had an injury but bowed to his opponent (who looked like he was apologetic over the hit) and left with excellent manners and chivarly. The most recent 21 vs. 21 bout had somebody go out on a backboard? IMO that makes Scott's injury not as bad. And nobody on Team USA was injured in the 21 vs. 21 bout.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
In my opinion they might benefit more from rugby or football line training. Also, lots of heavy front squats. Swinging swords appears almost incidental. I'm sure the BoN team will come back with lots of new knowledge on the subject.Theodore wrote:It's called either the Combat of the Thirty or Tuchux rules depending on the ration of steel to leather.
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Tuchux rules fighting, I have been assured, does not happen in the SCA (whatever photographs and videos I care to produce to the contrary) and the Combat of the Thirty, while intense, does not have the same conventions. I've seen people at Pennsic consciously move to avoid making eye contact and create engagement. Do that in the BoN and it looks like they'll laugh as they kick you to the ground. Even Western style melees with declared death from behind would be better for forcing situational awareness.Theodore wrote:It's called either the Combat of the Thirty or Tuchux rules depending on the ration of steel to leather.jester wrote:More Western tradition fighting practice is needed.
