Is it possible to fight with one of these in the SCA? I've seen A LOT of glaives, but not one of these.....

I don't se why not, unless their not period. Just be sure to obey the 90 degree rule.

Snaebjorn, ignore Constantious. Ansteorra (I saw you are in TX ) has NO 90 degree rule like other wussy kingdoms we could name.

My knight has a more pollaxe than a bec de corbin, and we are learning how to fight with it.

The 90 degree rule is it that way for great swords also here?

Does the East still have a 90 degree rule, or is it now reasonable force?

The East Kingdom has a 90 degree rule for great weapons in melee's but not for single combat.

The 90 degree rule doesn't mean that you can't swing past 90 degrees. It only limits you to putting power into the swing at 90 degrees.
IIRC the rule is SCA wide.
You can start your swing behind your back, but you can't power up until you reach 90 degrees(your shoulders).

The only issue with bec de corbins is the spike can't get any narrower than 1.25", and by then it doesn't look too much like a spike.

Unless I am mis-reading the current Marshal's Handbook, or there has been a revision since the 11/2000 edition, the 90 degree rule is not Society wide.

The Eastern rule for 90 degree swing in melee is very clear:

CM4. No two-handed weapons will be swung through an arc greater than 90 degrees.

There is no distinction made between powered and unpowered swings. Now this rule may not be enforced with any regularity, but it is the rule, so be aware if you swing more then 90 degrees, even if your blow is the lightest tap imaginable, the Marshal's (or another fighter) can call you on it.

Now I do not agree with the rule, I think our rules against excessively hard blows should cover any danger from greatweapons, but it is still the rule.
