knife handle material

Post by Krag »

In the process of cleaning up the house some, I found some old bags of mineralized mastadon ivory for knife handles. These aren't big enough for a full handle, but could be made into a mosaic pattern using pieces and black polyester resin as a fill/binder. I doubt I'll make a period knife from it...more probably a subhilt fighter or something.

If the colors of the one on the left are as great as they seem, I wouldn't bastardize it with resin.

Nah, don't glue it into a mosiac, that would be a waste. Use it for jewelry or scrimshaw projects, or inlay it into a musical instrument or as part of a chess board.

Or send it to me, I'll find a use Image
