now, this question is pretty basic. do most ppl actually forge thier weapons, or is most modern work done cold?

i friggin forgot part of my own damn question...
what are some tequiniques used primarily? such as how to bend a blade, how to straighten out an already bent blade (i plan to fix my first sword i made a few years ago) and what kind of hammers would u recommend?

Generally speaking there are two approaches to making blades (leaving aside mass production techniques). The first is the stock removal method where the blade is ground out of billet of steel and the second is forging where the blade is shaped by hammering the steel to the desired shape. The former is done cold and the latter hot, but both require heat treating the blade once it is shaped.

Answer: More people start out working cold. Most of those people wish they could work hot. Some of those people eventualy will.
