What are the pro's and cons of your current visor?

Based on your experiences with your current helm, would you suggest other people use that type of helm? (from a fighting point of view, not wether or not it would match their kit)

Have you had a helm in the past that you consider better suited to your style of fighting? If so, why?

They are many and varied. When I am awoken in the morning by my loyal guardsmen, he is often not present, haven taken an 'inspection' visit to alocal brothel the night before. My helm is a spangen top with greathelm faceplate and solid wraparound back. 14g mild for the whole thing. Spang topped sugarloaf?

Cons- visibility isn't that great. not horrible, just not great.

Pros- it's a tank. It is not as heavy as most other helms with aventails here in the shire but it's solid, easy to move in and is nearly perfect length such that my gorget only gets hit by the helm itself but still gives all the mobility I need. It's really fairly cool looking and, like most full face helms, pretty intimidating, or so I'm told. Now if I could only back it up with intimidating skill.


Angus

late 15th cent. salet, narrow eyeslit (1/2 to 3/4") pierced vertical slots in the visor . I fight bastard and getting into glave, so, as long as I keep my range correct, vision is good. It is great for taking the force of a face thrust that may be too hard by sweeping the shot off to the side.

Pros: Looks Billy Bad-Ass. Period look. Terrific glancing surfaces.
Cons: No downward visability. You get get speared in the belly easily. If you're not wearing a solid breast plate, that sucks for SCA fighting.
Suggested for pas and demos and for jedi-like gods who have ultra awareness of belly thrusts.


Pro: Decent period look for a close helm. Lots of visability and breathing is easy.
Cons: Not a personal fan of vertical bars over my field of vision, but I havne't tried this visor since getting my laser surgery and thus getting rid of the contacts. Must try that.
Suggested for people who don't dislike vertical bars.



Pros: Good medium of visability vs appearance.
Cons: Not great at either. Obviously a sport SCAdianism.
Suggested for people who don't mind. Like me.

I love fighting in close helms and armets.

I fight in a klappvisor bascinet very period and it looks great!!!

Bad visibility, very hard to breath through (has attached aventail), but I will not go back to a bargrill, unless I fight for crown or something importaint like that. I rather die with a period look

I like being able to see and breath and hear. The original was open faced, so the bargrill is a necessary addition.

good glancing surfaces and looks cool.


Cons of face plate:
looks like golden shovel/duck's bill
nto entirly bar grill
brass scratches easily

pro's
super period
very prettty
with enlarged occularium offers good vision including periferal

Period, looks good. Enough air and vision for me.

great helm face plate

pros:

damn good full face protection (sooner or later you be thankful for that...)
can use unaltered for both SCA and metal weapon combat
looks menacing

cons:

visibility not as good as other open faced helmets
breathing not as good as other open faced helmets
most great helms you have to take it off completely to eat, drink, vomit, etc.

T-face barbute

Pros;
period, NO BARS,good airflow, fairly good visibility, rweally rocks when helms are worn "as is"

Cons;

lower visibility not too good except right in front.

Bascinet with globose klappvisor

Pros: Super clean glancing surfaces, thrusts tend to slide off unless they catch the hinge. Looks eeeeeeeeeevil.

Cons: Vision limited somewhat. Air exchange very difficult, running any distance is a real challenge. Extended exersion sucks.

I have since changed the hinge.

And I made a bargrill for it, because I am so out of shape that I couldnt deal with the stale air thing.
