You know, I was struck by how many of these votes come out of the traditions of one single barony. The Barony of Grey Niche (Memphis Tn) has an awesome set of spearmen.
John Bearkiller
Kane Redfeather
Mike the Mace
Rey Beaument
Lee Freibrand
All come from Grey Niche
In addition, I think it is safe to say mention that Tar Radu and his Lovely Bride Bri were both squired to knights in the Niche. I know that Radu got much of his earlier training there, though I am unfamilliar with Bri's early training.
That's ONE barony. I think that is a little impressive.
Is it something in the water? Or maybe it's the influence of Elvis and Graceland?

West Coast chimes in

Since the Left Coast needs some representation:
Tanar Longspear (moved to the Middle about -92 or so. I have seen Tanar win several good-sized tourneys using a standard 9 footer)
HRM Direk
and his (Real-life brother) HRH Brand
*AND* their brother HL George
Achilles of Sparta
Sir Vlad - these last 5 are all from the Orkney warband
These are all from the Barony of Calafia - oops! I left one out - Jeff Hedgecock, when he played SCA was a particularly skilled pikeman and the original teacher of George, Direk, Brand and Achilles...
THese are the few that spring immediatley to mind

Id have to chime in with Prothall..
IMO best would include the ability to fight solo with spear dodging shots as well as throwing them...
fighting in a line doesnt really show personal skill as much as ONE guy killing 5+ other spearmen alone...
Prothal does this often in the states...
