the healing power of a really good practice (SCA)

Guys,

Many of you have put up with me whining a lot about how little fun I was having fighting in the SCA. Well, I had a really, really good practice on Saturday, and I feel so good I could jump for joy. It has been a long while since I felt this good about fighting, and the feeling seems to be lingering.

It was a demo, and a lot of folks showed up that otherwise might not have. A larger range of opponents is a big help. All the gear was shiny, and there were no "Legends in loaner gear" around to winkie on my fun.

One of our fighters (home grown) just spent a little over a week up at double wars in Sweden, fighting this westie named Jade, and she came back a lot better. It's fun to get beat by a pretty blonde girl who hits soundly. It's even more fun as well when you find yourself "turning your fighting up to 11" to keep up with her. This is what I have been needing, and I want more!

I have a bruise, and I can't remember when I last got a bruise at local practice. My arms and back and my abs were sore the next day.

I want more!

I had a similar experience Sunday at a regional fighter practice. Made me remember why I got invovled in the first place. Swinging sticks is cool.

You can let her know that Jade won the crown tournement of the West for the 13th time this last Saturday

Friedman,

That young lass there isn't to shabby at all. She has a Vicious "j" wrap. Enjoyed our fights together.

Spot on...I trashed mymountain bike last night...it was my hardtail Tom Ritchey frame that I've had for years, the "bikers" will understand. Tons of miles on it, and with a brand new full suspended bike in my garage, I still grabbed the steel framed single speed Ritchey a majority of the time....

..anyhow, back to the subject at hand....I went to bed so bummed out last night. I'm pretty excited about getting to go practice tonight though...and actually in a great mood because of it.

I had a great fight with Isfael last night at practice. Now, he was using a little buckler and I was using a nice big center-grip oval, but it made for a fun and challenging fight for both of us. Best fight I've had in months.

I was disappointed when my arms got too tired and I got too winded to continue. Gotta work on that.

Its nice to see that many of you define a great practice as one where you not only get in some good blows but also recieve a fair number of them. Being pushed to rasie your fighting up to meet the challenge of a skilled opponent is so much more satisfying then defeating someone of lesser experience and skill.

Yep, a good day like that can bring back all the good feelings that got me into the SCA. Last week I got to fight quite a bit with Duke Orlando, which is always fun. Since I met him at my first event in, back in 1980, I found myself reliving a lot of memories. Just glad I can still get in there with the guys.
