(SCA) Fight Practices?

Greetings to all,

There has of late been discussions in my area about who is responsible to arrange fight practices. So who does it?

It is my understanding that anyone can start up a fight practice but just needs the Master of Stables or main marshall in the area to ensure that there is a warranted marshal present at the practice. Am I wrong or have I missed something important?

All official practices are arranged by the local knights marshal or deputy knights marshal. You can of course have all the unofficial practices you like.

Officially, you must have a marshall present to hold an SCA sanctioned fighter practice. Holding a friendly gathering is another matter entirely, cuz then the SCA has no attachment to it. Keep in mind that any passers-by see you, that you cannot mention the SCA unless it is official.

In my experience, the local marshalls are the ones who organize practices.

What happens if there is a regularly scheduled, recurring practice and for some reason the marshal doesn't show up?

i have hosted a weekly fighter practice at my home for years. like 12 years. never has it been and never shall it be an official sca practice. the only way a practice becomes an official sca practice is if it is published in an official sca publication. that being either an official sca branch newsletter or posted as an official sca practice on a recognized sca web site. save that there is no official sca practice.

its all really stupid by the way. i have held an unofficial practice for years and years and years. the sca has never been harmed and it has, in all actuality, always been protected by me for more than a decade. i have never dealt with cards, mols, problems, bullshit, silliness, attitudes, tuchuxs, mercs, whatever for that time. as long as the sca is protected it shouldnt matter. host a practice, know the rules, and if you host an official sca practice make sure you have all of the required people there to make sure it happens. if you cant do that then dont try to host something.

regards
