Bronze chinese swords

Hey all

Ebay is, at any given time, bogged down with bronze swords from China, which appear to be about a hundred years old. So, what exactly is the story with these weapons- are they real swords, or decorative/ceremonial items? If you wanted to do some test cutting etc., to try and get an idea of what a bronze sword could do, would using one of these weapons be worthwhile?

Thanks in advance,

~Wil

I suggest you ask over at the swordforum site.

I'd be willing to bet the price of 10 of those "sword-like-objects" that they are fake. Virtually everything on Ebay from China is less than authentic.

Wil,

I was thinking of buying one of those same obviously fake antique swords from e-bay till I was advised on the Sword Forum that the metal is of questionalble quality---perhaps not even bronze!

My project was to be a Mycenaean sword.

Hope this helps, Wil.

Cheers,
Tim

Hey Wil,

Here's a good thread on original Chinese Bronze Swords...

And here's one started by Stud' himself, that he was obviously to lazy to look up... ;) This is particularly about the Ebay blades.

Hope those answer any questions you had, Wil!
