Being the Report of the Court of Their Sylvan Highnesses, Malcolm and Tessa,
Prince and Princess of AEthelmearc, by leave of Their Majesties, Rurik and
Angelik, King and Queen of AEthelmearc. Courts held on March 5, AS 39 (2005)
at the Spring Bears Event in Their Shire of Stormsport, and at the Donnan
Party in Their Shire of Sunderoak. His Excellency, Vladisla Nikulich,
herald; Giulietta da Venezia, reporting.
At both events, Their Highnesses did convene Their Court, for the purpose of
proclaiming the following to the populace:
Unto Our Royal Cousins, Peers, Nobles and gentles, come these words from
Malcolm, by right of Arms Heir to the Sylvan throne, and Tessa, rightful
Sylvan Princess of Aethelmearc.
In this place, it is meet and right that We do make greetings and wish fair
health unto all whom these words reach; for it is friendship, comraderie and
a unity of love for our Society and its ideals that doth bring us all
together. Yet, within these friendships, there are times when great Kingdoms
do contend for Honor with might and sword and sweat, and in those times,
there must be those who stand together, and those who stand opposed. Grown
as a child of the Tiger, We of AEthelmearc do have great familial love for
the lands of the East. Also have We long stood as friends with those gentle
neighbors who fly the banner of the Dragon. To choose to stand with one
against the other is difficult, but eased by the knowledge that by the fires
of night, we all do share the same kegs and stories and brotherly
friendship. While a Realm must needs choose a cause to champion, that
decision does not preclude amity and honor given to all; for it is Our
opinion, that by giving great contest upon these fields, We do cause the
occasion for those who would test their might and skill to do so with
Honorable challenge against strong and worthy adversaries.
With those words past, the time has come for the Realm of AEthelmearc to
make public just such a choice. Given as it is Our Right to speak for the
Sovereign Realm of AEthelmearc, hear then these words and know Our will.
When the war pennons wave across the battlefields of Pennsic, the Banner of
the Escarbuncle shall stand steadfast gainst the fury of the Tiger, and fly
beside the banner of the Dragon. In doing this, We would strengthen
friendships across the Western Borders, and also do Honor unto Our Eastern
Brothers, for we would test our Mettle and give them Our strength to test
themselves. These cousins of the East are fierce and valiant, and they will
bring their best; for they do not enter the battlefield with the intention
of doing anything other than emerging victorious. We will meet this
challenge, and We so direct all of those under the Escarbuncle to arm
strongly 'gainst them. Let all see the Chivalry, the Courtesy, the Honor and
the Might that is Our Realm. In the end, We will all be better men and
women, for in this crucible of War, We will, each of us, forge our skills
anew, growing strong with Chivalry. Thus and with such actions, We will
honor our opponents by day with our Swords, and by night with our Flagons.
We do now salute all those who stand upon the various fields of contest, and
do their Kingdoms proud.. for it gladdens our hearts when men and women rise
to the challenges set before them and make Honor their goal.
