Shoes or boots readily available that are also suitable for SCA combat and that look like 14th and 15th century actual footwear.

Somone had posted about a source for turnshoes for 14th century use with some kind of modern sole and also some with roughed up or ribbed leather soles I think.

Does any one have the link?

Any reviews of these shoes and the vendors?

Any issues with ankle support?

Are child's sizes available?

What about 15th century?

Revival has good one's. From what I understand, you can buy them with a vibram sole attached now. I attached my own and have had good luck with them... If you have bad ankles, I would suggest a low-pro ankle brace. They got completely soaked at Estrella this year and when they dried out they dried out like typical leather does. Put a few coats of leather conditioner on them and there almost like new. I've had good dealings with them, make sure when you order they have your shoe size in stock. It can take a little while for them to get some in at times.

Revival is the way to go. Get a vibram sole put on by a local cobbler. They rock.

Sure, if they have your size. I e-mailed them about possibly making some for me and got zilch back from them.

Love my Revivals. Have two pair, one with the vibram and one without, and have fought in both. I recommend the vibram, but never had a problem with either.

What is Vibram?

Let me also proclaim the glories of the Vibram sole boot from Revival. The look is good and they work great. I fought in mine for the first time at an event this past weekend. Good traction and we fought on fresh cut spring grass.

I wear a size 12. The ankle support was great.

I was able to get pewter & also brass 14th century style armour buckles and a pair of 14th Cent style size 3 low boots for my daughter, as well as some boots (for fighting) and some cool stuff including an SCA poleaxe head for myself, all from Brian Price at Revival/Chivalry Bookshelf.

I decided to try leather soles one last time for SCA fighting, I considered the Vibram, but I really want to try for a more authentic look and I need them soon. I'll try Vibram if I'm still slipping around too much. Brian said he might be able to help with chauses for me, but they don't have kids size chauses for my daughter's armour and they don't have men's size 12 turnshoes yet.

I tried reaching Historic/Black Swan after that, to see if they have any kids size chauses, also maybe turnshoes in stock for my wife and I, but I keep getting an answering machine. Does anyone know if this is the week that they are in England?

As long as you arent fighting on a gym floor, you really dont need a vibram sole. I've fought in both the standard 14th cent lowboots they sell and my motorcycle boots and the difference in the field is negligable.

I love the Rivival boots. Haven't tried the Vibram soles yet, but I've added them to my next shopping list.

Yes, Marvin, that is Alan on the field and he won the never-more tourney.

That has to be a buckler as Brandr's dinner plate is much larger than that
