Jehan I'm curious.

Probably everone else on this archive would know this without having to ask, but what time period does that harness represent?

Thanks much! It's always a thrill to get positive strokes. Most of the work is by Historic Enterprises, though the mail I knitted myself, the belt tip I kit-bashed from a couple of belt mounts, the sword is an Arms and Armor Henry V, the plaque belt was designed, cast and assembled by one of our company, Raymond Girard, and the helmet and visor were made by Brent Junkins (Sir Luther, KSCA) of Anshelm Arms. The wearer was made in the back seat of a '60 Chevy, by all accounts, but try not to let him distract excessively.

The kit dates to 1384. The armor elements are seen on effigies dating from 1350 to 1415, though by the later part of that era the tonlet fauld defense for the hips (like this: http://medievalrepro.com/ central photo) is fully in fashion.

The visor is quite old for the portrayal. Persona play: "I really need to get a new visor, but it was my father's obtained in Germany and it serves well yet, though I am chided for my willfulness."

Here's mine. I made this a few years ago. There is a leather suspention liner (covering the foam padding). I think it needs a smaller occularia...

My helm, not nessisarily better than others
but I like it. Good visibility.

Next time I will take more time planishing
and making it pretty.

My wife bought it for me from Mandrake this past summer. Sir Richard made it. He might actually be Knotwolf. I don't know. Do you?

I think it's absolutley beautiful. I have never had any "high end" armour before, and I didn't think that there was actually any difference. Boy did I learn something.

It's not actually true I have never owned a piece of high end armor. I have a set of AB gaunts that I got essentially for free 15 years ago. I kept wondering why all the new gaunts I tried on were so bad. This helm has spoiled my head too.

But of course it is a coppergate, yeah.

As for mine, I love the Anshelm bascinet shape. Sir Luther manages to make a welded bascinet with just the right arch. I then take gold ink and write IHS (Iesus Humanitas Sanctus) in uncial hand on the black leather aventail leather. Really spiffs it up.

there is a fighter in Mississippi known as Heroshi Helmsplitter. He has been fighting since rocks were soft, and he may have been responsible for causing the guage of helmets to be increased to 16ga.

He returned for Disneyland with a real Mickey thing going on, and got the laurels to pass "three coins, abutted" for a charge on a sheild.

of course, that was over fifteen years ago.

Are those HE arms, as well, Jehan? I love mine. A breastplate is probably in my future - mine is getting kinda ratty, which is why I cover it with a surcoat.

All of the plate except for the helmet and visor is from Historic Enterprises. I took it out for a spin last night. Good stuff.

Thrusts were skipping off the breastplate.

the real question is where did you get the mouse hat and how much? just think of a whole unit of mouse hatted fighters showing up to a war. no one would be able to land a blow because they'd already be downed from laughter.

its a true "SCA" close... I can barely get my head into my helmet.

the 12ga SS construction is bomb proof.

its very protective... I was lifted into the air with a shield hook... a huge duke caught his shield under my chin and threw me onto my back.

I am on my fourth hinge pin. the keep breaking. the design in the pic above was a quickie and lasted one practice. one Ti pin and two broken SS ones. next one will be 12ga SS.

sadly its weight makes my neck sore so I will have to make another in 14ga SS.

Well my helm is about as stout as they come. !0g to and the rest 12g. while some are quite subtle the whole surface of the helm is compound curves. It was only my second helm I made. And to top it all off (well more to put under it) if fits over the bascinet I've been working on.

Not better but different. I still think I have the smallest eyeslits in both Gleann AbBhann and Meridies.
