Turmstadt Visting instructors at this week's practice

Post by freiman the minstrel »

Goode Gentles,

Turmstad this sunday plans to welcome TWO excellent guest instructors to our practices, here in Drachenwald.

Turmstadt has a long history of welcoming visiting instructors. We have been priveleged to welcome some of the finest in the Society, as well as some guest intstuctors from other martial arts for specialized seminars.

This week we are pleased to welcome two of the most distinguished instructors in the central region.

First, we are pleased to welcome Lord Alisdair the Fyrdman. Lord Alisdair is a member of the order of the Iren Fyrd of Calontir, an elite fighting order of the Army of Calontir which is considered to be "the backbone of the Calon Army", sometimes being described as the drill seargents of the best trained sheild wall in the Knowne Worlde. As a special bonus, Lord Alisdair is relatively well known for his special study of period Lichtenaur and Ringeck (my spellings may be wrong) longsword work. Some of you might remember the class that Alisdair was asked to teach at Kingdom University not too long ago. Alisdair will not be teaching a class, but has requested to be able to work in informal, individual training, which he feels is better for this field of study.

It is possible that there will be a pair of custom built "Boffere" longswords available at the practice so that non fighters will not have to be left out of this excellent instruction. The pair were specially comissioned for Period Longsword studies for Lord Alisdair by one of the worlds best Boffer Weapons makers, and will NOT be available for simple boffer games. This part of the instruction is still waiting on the aproval of the KEM, and might possibly have to be shelved.

(drum roll please, cue thumping bass)

Turmstadt is very pleased to welcome His Excellency Count John Peregrine (KSCA) as a guest instructor. Sir John is one of the premier instructors of the SCA, and is one of the finest fighters in the Knowne Worlde. Sir John is actively sought out by some of the finest fighters in the region. Sir John's instruction sessions always push a fighter's boundaries, sometimes employing such unusual training aids as Broadway show tunes or blindfolds. Fighters who receive instruction from Sir John frequently report sore muscles in odd places, as Sir John's instruction frequently radically improves body mechanics.

Please note, these instructors will only be teaching for part of the practice, as all visiting instructors get a chance to fight til they are too sore for more.

Afterwards, we will be going to The Fat Lady Sings, a local Irish pub that treats us well, for food, drinks and fellowship. Every fighter will be inspected, and every fighter will sign a standard SCA waiver. Please don't skimp, it would break my heart to bounce you.

If a fighter would like to be a part of Turmstadt's Visiting Fighter Program, please notify us. At the very least, all visiting instructors recieve hospitality, and usually depart with small gifts, such as Rattan, Fibre Tape and Fig Newtons.

Please come to Turmstadt, where we believe in Training new fighters, not beating on them.

Yours in Service
