While I haven't spoken directly to the MiC about this, I expect that the battles will basically be of about the same mix as you see at Pennsic - about 1/3 of them will include CA and siege (though i don't expect to see many siege engines), and time-wise split about 1::1 or 2::1 between field and bridge respectively.
The limiting factor on the amount of CA and siege is that many (most ?) projectiles must be re-inspected after each use, and that can be done by marshals while non-CA battles are occurring (or, why does CA always happen last in the best-of-three at Pennsic?), allowing for maximum fighting time.

I will bow to no man except he that's proved my better by the quality of his battle. Or the quality of his silver. If no great impediment denies me, I shall stand against the tyranny of these "noble" knights. Their overly guilt hides should fetch a great price.

Oh Man! Oh Man! Oh Man!
I need to authorize very soon. This kind of battle is the REASON I want in on this stuff.

I believe that Sir Vitus has opined that it is not dishonerable for knightly warriors to shoot at villianous mercenaries. It is clearly within scope for vermin such as ourselves to pincussion our betters with arrrows. Indeed, in my opinion there is no better home for an arrow than the face of a knight.
Extremely well said.

Alas, I'm just a naked fool at this point.
I'm trying to get a kit together so that I can make this war practice. I only live about 2 hours or so from Cooper's Lake so I really want to make it. Not really ready for Pennsic but I can't pass up the chance to split some noble skulls with fellow mercs!

Brave talk from a doughty warrior, but without harness, you will be nothing more than fodder.
Mercanary or loyal vassal, any warrior worth his salt knows the value of good harness. Come play with the big dogs, or stay home, but no whining about bruises!

Please do bring Siege Engines. It'll make it far easier to fling the remains of these coinloving curs off the lands of Loyal men. Although, perhaps a better plan would be to have them churned in with soil. That way that some honest work may yet be gained from them while they feed the roots of Our crops...

How cool would it be to be able to ransom a knight? I mean, killing them is fun and all, but wouldnt it be cool?

Ransom the knight, ransom the knight, thats all we hear.
Why dont anyone say, ransom the merc or barbarian?
Oh thats right, no one would pay for them back.
I kid, I kid. :p

Oh, joy...I can see it now, considering I'm in fealty to The Crown:
Barbarian: "Your Majesty! We have taken Sir Mord prisoner! We demand ransom for his release..."
The Crown: "Well, we might pass the hat at the Order meeting..."
Barbarian: "We will painting Mord blue and tie him to the Tree of Woe if you do not pay the ransom!"
The Crown: "Are you selling tickets, then?"

Sir Mord,
You are a genius.
I can easily envision a Crown paying us to keep some members of the chivalry... quiet.
and or
We could auction off the popular. Come knights! test the love of your squires and ladies. Who will pay (the most) to see you alive again?

See that whole concept worries me, cause I am not to sure how long of a memory my squires, men-at-arms and warriors under my banner have.
I might be stuck right next to Mord in woad, and you really wouldnt want to see that site, you might pay the ransom yourself, just to get rid of me.

Siege Engines!
Siege Engines!
Siege Engines!
I also like the idea of ransoms. But how about taking it a step further? Kidnap them a head of time maybe?
And Heairn... You would only be tasting the steel and stone of my missiles. I'd be shooting AT you, not FOR you.

"Oh boy, this is gonna be great!"

Kinda fitting.
Er, um, Nissan...about the part where we despoil the land...I think we sort of consider it ours and the SCA are but squatters.

Ok Ok lets say we are not "invaders" but are "liberators" who have been "invited" to free the oppressed . That always seems to work.

Not to split hairs, but "despoiling the land" means taking and using what is valuable (like food, clothing, jewelry, etc..) and then leaving. If you, through battle and war, believe that you and your companions own the land in question, then you are making yourself "lords" of the geographical area in dispute.

The question is one of rights. The right of Condottiere to live within lands, and yet to defy the authority of Kings who own those lands.
For example, all merc/indie/tribal combatants who live in the Midrealm should be able to win their right to their independence by defeating the King, his knights and their retainers in a pitched battle.
Of course, if they take the study of what we do seriously. They are also perfectly within their rights to just play and not care about what the Kingdom crowd are doing at all.
I don't mind either approach. It's their fun time.
What I do mind is this- that larger Households who are seemingly NOT involved in Kingdom politics being important players in large vacation events like Pennsic. They can turn the tables of any given war through the numbers that they can add or subtract from a Army. Because they can do this, they ARE involved in Kingdom-level politics. Not only that, they get PAID.
I don't care if you get paid a single Ritz cracker, if you get paid to fight by a Crowned head then you are involved. However, no matter who wins or loses, these people get free stuff and can never be accused of losing a war for anyone. Meanwhile, the bad vibes grow between the Kingdoms because these other combatants are "needed" and nobody can ever say "screw those guys" without worrying about the other side hiring them.
Because the mercs who live in the Midrealm, or the East or Aethelmearc will not fight based upon where they live, because that is not the glue that binds them, they can band together and fight with each other. A sort of Kingdom of Mercs.
Do they pay each other for their services?
Regardless, it is all a very interesting way of learning about medieval politics.
