In preperation of attending GulfWar in March. Our shire is headed out to work on our permanent land this weekend to get it ready for the event. There are about 8 of us going and should have everything accomplished by Saturday night. I'll take plenty of pics and such to show everyone how the gulfWar land looks. Should have some pics up next week for everyone to take a gander at.

If you get a chance, check out the condition of the hotel on site and post what you find out please. Last Gulf Wars it was in pretty bad shape. Danke

Sir Wilhelm (and all),
My Clan (along with others in Gleann Abhann) has been part of the clean-up effort at Kings Arrow Ranch since Katrina and from what I hear from them the Motel is still closed and not taking any reservations. The site is pretty banged up but thankfully not as bad as originally thought. There may be hotel rooms north of site in Hattiesburg but that may be more trouble than it's worth. Hopefully this will not detur Easterners or any other gentle from coming to Gulf Wars. Gulf Wars is the only time I get to see my House Brothers and sisters.
We in Clan Marshin Fayne will be there to welcome all of you with open arms and southern hospitality. I hope to see you and other fellow members of the East Kingdom populace at Gulf Wars.

Cathal, if you get a chance could you take a gander at the usual Arkham land (dat is yer neighbours of course :D). We're probably going to send down a work crew in early February and it'd be interesting to know how we're faring.

UPDATE:

I called the motel and was told that while it is habitable, it's full of crews doing cleanup to the site, such that if you had a reservation, it is unclear at this point as to whether it will be honored. You're best off calling and re-reserving for this year, and waiting until March 1 to hear whether you get a hotel room or not, and changing your plans from this year from that point.

BTW it's still searchable as Georgetowne Inn in Lumberton, MS on your typical yellow pages site.

Regards,

Thank you very much for the info. My household ( House Bloodguard) and I have been going to Gulf Wars for many years now and we look forward to it more and more every year. We are always shown a great time both on and off the field. Oh, and then there is the food....... all I can say is that once I had some crawfish etufe' I just had to have my wonderful wife make it for me up here. Man I love that stuff.

Your land is almost clear ... nothing but a little work to be done on it. All the felled trees and things have been moved to the corner of Queens highway on our land and the plan is to have FEMA clear it out from there. We only had to work saturday morning until about 1:00 pm and our land was ship shape. We headed home cause we didnt want to pack up our tents in the rain come sunday morning. As you travel to the site you will see lots and lots of downed trees. However the GulfWar site is cleaning up nicely ... everyone should have a good time once you get there.

Regarding the hotels ... the once closest to the site are either all booked with FEMA people or are booked with military people. Ive heard of people calling as far away as Jackson in search of a room. My suggestion is to tough it out in a tent at Gulf this year. There will be a new tavern and plenty to eat at the main eating area. I bought meal tickets last year for the whole family and it worked out great. 50 bucks per person for the whole week and you dont have to take any food with you. Just booze and snacks. :)

What about showers and toilets. How are the small towns around the site.

Last time I was out there the shower houses looked ok.

There should be the usual portalets.

Hattiesburg & Picayune are both up and running. The same is probably true for Poplarville & Lumberton. Anything in particular you were looking for?

I agree with Cathal, tough it out in a tent or be prepared for a drive. The drive in from Jackson is about 120 miles or so. There might be something closer available along hwy 49 in mississippi or try along the I-12 corridor in Louisiana.

You're most welcome...It is always good to hear that people have a great time at Gulf Wars...especially those that come from far away (as I do now living in the East Kingdom). And yes...along with the hospitality there is the food (and good Crawfish Etuffe' is a thing of beauty)...it's one of the things I miss about the South so I make sure to partake in the good food made by our clan cooks every year. Come down to our encampment on the corner of King's and Queen's for a cold drink and a warm fire...

Only a month and a half until Gulf Wars...can't wait...
