X-post: Middle Kingdom Academy of Defense - Heavy Fighting

For the past number of years, the MKAOD event hosted by the Shire of Ravenslake in the Midlands, has traditionally been a Light weapons based event.

Recently there has been a push to have a heavy weapons track of classes for this event. This year, I am the coordinator for the Heavy Weapons Class track. I am seeking volunteers to teach classes for heavy weapons.

I would like to see the classes run a wide range from incorporating historic techniques into heavy fighting to traditional SCA styles and event into basic techniques, proper defense, how to be effective on a shield wall, effective spear defense techniques, etc.....

Anyone who is interested in teaching a class at the MKAOD event over the Labor Day weekend (a 3 day event) please contact me off list at kenwrecwulfe@yahoo.com.

For more information on the MKAOD event, please visit - http://www.ravenslake.com/ and go to EVENTS, then MKAOD.

Thank you.

I would recommend that folks check out the current class schedule. Although this has always been billed as a rapier event some of these courses will be of interest to any fighter. A lot of these classes are taught by folks who do both rapier and armoured combat.

Hey Wulfe, planing on running any heavy authorizations?

Thus far I have not gotten a single response or any interest in anyone teaching anything at MKAOD for the heavy track, actually. I did touch base with a few people at W&W, but I ahve heard anything yet. I am sure there is a lot of prep for Pennsic going on right now, so it is hard to get a response from anyone right now (that seems to be the trend from years past.)

I can certainly run authorizations. I am authorized in all weapons forms in the Middle Kingdom, so I can cover anything that is needed, though if it involves CA, we would need enough fighters for a small melee.

I plan to be there and can teach some melee small unit stuff.

That would be excellent Nissan, thank you.

If you could, contact me off list.

But i have other things i have to get done. I need to know when the Pas is, or else i can't plan the rest of the weekend.

If i can't plan i can't go.

Anyone know when it is? I can't find it on their site.

The Pas is on Saturday. Inspections at 9AM. Pas start is listed as 10AM.

Hopefully I can get authorized before and then watch some and take a class or two. Want to take Kevin's class.

This is a rattan Pas correct?

A frined of mine said he thinks it's a rapier Pas.

Almost certainly rattan. All the rapier games are in the afternoon after classes are over.

Come to MKAOD and make new friends!
I've fought rapier for ten years. There is no such thing as a 'Rapier Pas'.

I'm really posting just to :bump:

if i can get anyone to come with
i'll go.

There is the slim chance that the floors will get done in the new house and we'll start moving in to avoid extending our stay in the corporate housing (read tiny box of an apt)

I checked the event's web page nad saw that the Pas was cancelled.

Too bad.

I know the organizers have been trying to increase heavy participation for a couple of years.

I'll be there to scrap with Logan, and if any one wants any insight in how to be a thorn in the side of the SCA establishment I am qualified to teach that.

Yea, I cancelled the Pas due to a number of reasons...same reason I had to derail the track of classes, to be honest... It seems that getting a heavy weapons track going at this traditionally rapier event is going to be a struggle...I have tried for the passed 2 years to no real success.

Perhaps next year will have better luck.

I look forward to seeing all of you who are going there.

dont dispair man! all we need is a couple of guys and a field. make it 6 guys and you have a full day of fun, instruction, contest. 10 guys you have all that plus a tourney that allows everyone more fighting than they can handle and not getting trounced by the top two guys there.

nissan, me, and killian (my ride) will all be there tomorrow. who else??

logan
