just wondering if theres a list of who was in the 30 and what armour they were wearing. to see jsut how "period" they are or are close to being. plus its always nice to see all the suits laid out as individuals rather than all smushed up in the battle

Ok, here is me and my kit. This picture is actually from this years battle of the 30.

Helm - round faced bascinet with side pivots. It has a double wide occularum with bar reinforcement and perforated steel in it for steel fighting and jousting. I also realise that that last part may keep my kit from being up to spec with the emprise of the golden rope... Made from Mild steel - White mountain armoury

Camail - round wire riveted mail - Indian company

Gambeson - hemp made by Guilded Boar

Globose Breastplate made of carbon steel - if it's not hardened right now, it soon will be - it's still in progress...by Cet aka - Vulcan's Forge

Spaulders and arm harness of high carbon heat treated steel by Duke Alaric

Gauntlets- mild steel mitten gautlets of generic SCA design - me likey my fingers

Leg harness - high carbon heat treat steel by Historic Enterprises

Chausses and braes - linen Revival clothing

Turnshoes- leather, revival too.

White sash - my ladies favor Works for me as my period knight's belt!

Kettle hat in mild from Von sussen i made the suspension liner in it
coif from HE

Gorget from Revival leather

Linen St Louis Shirt from HE

Hemp Arming coat from Gilded boar

Churburg 14 Breastplate in 18ga? 16 ga? Hardened 1050 (i think) from Cet, with reproduction medieval buckles

Spaulders in hardened 1050 18 ga with 20 ga lames i think from Gilded boar

Chartred Cathedral arms from Cet similar construction to Body armour

Belt from Master Jamie with plates from Blackwood Jewelry, Buckle and Tip from Raymonds quiet press.

Plaque belt is silver plates bronze with black laquer work from Raymonds Quiet press.

The surcoat is made by my wife hand sewn. We think it's satin with silk embrodery, not sure. It's shiny but doesn't strech like polyester, plus it's not hot as the fires of hell to wear. It was made from a damaged sample of a very expensive Bedspread that Saks was going to sell.

Kate repaired one and restuffed it with the batting from the one we used as the Surcoat. With the many tiny fur de lies it looks exactly like the "France Ancient" arms used up until Poitiers i think. So i thought it was appropriate. Silk hand braided loops on the sides for the closure.

The Hose and braise are HE linen.

The cuiesses knees and dimi greaves are all sping from HE. With period style buckles. In fact the only difference in mine and Angu's are the greaves.

The greaves are tempered spring from Cet, again with period style buckles.

The sabatons were put together by me, rivited mail made from my VonSussen Shirt that i trimmed down.

The shoes are Revival low boots.

Mild steel Anshelm Pig faced bascinet with Master Knutt Aventail. Linen, padded suspension liner made by me. Eyeslot modified by me, linen cord on the aventail made by Kate,.

And my Bell cuffed guantlets made by Cet again in hardened Spring steel

This is pretty much what i wear all the time, even practice. i have a Klapvisor i wear too. Cet Visor and Justus helmet, rivited flat aventail. I do try and save my good medieval clothes. I slum at practice soft kit wise.
Here's the klapvisored hat later that day at warriors of history. Thats my wagon too.


SCAdianisms were the Rattan Dagger, Pollaxe and mace and leather weapon hangers from Kinslayer arms, on borrowed from my buddy Iian. The mail is welded stainless, not rivited, and i have on my Champion compression shorts with the pocket for the boxing cup i had on. The guantlets should be fingers. The greaves sould be enclosed, i should have on a mail shirt, i should have fully enclosed the mail sabatons. I should also have had on rebraces,

Those shall be rectified before next year. With the exception of the rattan and the cup.

This was my first year in the Thirty.

This kit will get improved as much as possible over the next year. (grandiose ideas)

Klapvisor bascinet (Armor and Casting) with flat riveted Stainless maill from Knutt (borrowed)

Churburg from Icefalcon. (sitting to low.. adjusting that)

pauldrons stainless from Red Falcon (added for CotT)

padded arming coat of cotton baby-quilt batting and trigger (getting replaced with either linen or hemp)

linen shirt under arming coat with a high standing collar (avoids gorget bites)

Gorget from Arnshelm (leather and stainless -- not visible with helm on.)

Mandrake mitten gauntlets (looking into finger gaunts - I like my fingers too much)

3/4 arm and leg harness from Red Falcon (custom fit 4 yrs ago) <leg harness supported on a leather 'C' belt. will get properly pointed on the arming coat or pourpoint>

leather (temporary) greaves (also 4 yrs old)

braies (linen) and chausses (wool)

Revival low boots

Belt... standard SCAdian ring belt (will get replaced with proper belt w/fittings)

Master Cad mass produced Basinet (14g mild steel) with GDFB 8mm aventail
Maille shirt 8mm from GDFB
Coat of Plates from Pathfinder (16g mild steel) this is on my replace list.
Arms, Spaulders, and Knees from Historic Enterprise (Mixed 18 to 22g spring steel)
Padded cuisses and arming cote by me (Linen with raw cotton padding)
Leather shynbolds by Primvs Pavlvs
Fingered Wisby Gauntlets by Celtic Warrior aka Clay Moore


Mathieu's armor was produced by a friend of his. 1380s English

This is my harness. It is the same harness and I use for "sport" combat as well.




The helm is an 12 G mild Anshelm bascinet with visor, came with the stainless welded Knuut aventaille. My last three helms were from Luther and he's the best. Bummer he isn't making them any more.
Besagues I made in stainless.
The heraldic surcoat is based off the St. George and the dragon woodcut I saw, with button top sleeve. I made it specifically for this battle. It is, to my shame, not period because I used a printed fabric to save time for the construction. My new one is hemp linen and my lady hand did the squares.
Churburg #13 chest in stainless, made by Master Geoffrey the Younger. He made 90% of the #13's in my household. He makes fantastic stuff.
Spaulders made by Luther Anshelm. Not visible under surcoat, but they are single piece cops with a nebuly red leather trim on the bottom and are mild steel.
The vambraces and rerebraces are Historic Enterprises simple 14th C arms in mild.
Finger gauntlets by Celtic Warriors. After many hard hits they worked fine.
The period rondel sheath and belt in white leather I made, with the buckle being an anshelm dress buckle and the crowned A's being purchased from Historic Enterprises. I made it two nights before leaving because I didn't want to "shove a knife through my belt". I like very much how it turned out.
My Knights belt I made to replace one not suited to such combat or looks with anshelm buckles and fittings.
Plaque belt by Global Effects.
Linen period shirt. Made by my lady.
gambeson of tapestry material and trigger, cotton interior. It is currently being replaced by a period one of hemp linen and horse hair. Did not complete it for pennsic.
Cuisses were made by William Hurt in stainless. He is my armorer, and by next 30 I should have the rest of my completed suit from him, based off the Churburg #13 harness, with greaves based off the Chartres Cathedral pair to accomidate spurs for equestrian jousting.
Greaves in stainless, full case. Not sure who made these, as I got them while I was jousting in 1994. I altered them for SCA equestrian to use spurs.
Period braise, made by my lady.
Period red chausses made by my lady.
Shoes by Revival Leather. These simply rock. Although I lost the vibram sole right after purchase, I still LOVE these shoes for outdoor fighting. they were the best addition to my look and are way better than my old "dress" shoes.
Spurs from Historic enterprises. I lost a rowel in simple wear, so took the other one off to use for riding and jousting. I took the original straps off and replaced them with white ones with crowned A's from HE and some templar crosses from Billy and Charlie's.

Next year I was going to bring an additional weapon-

This is why I think the Combat of 30 needs a website. Somewhere central to show photos and videos from each year, who are the captains, who are the French, who are the English and what were the rules that year. Not to mention abit of history of the actual battle and what is attempting to be accomplished.

No worries it is in the works if you read the early parts of the 14th c tournament thread. My idea is to assemble all the photo galleries and videos out there and have a break down of the teams from the past as well as a who is in the next one section.

now i could get into the sca if everyone looked that good. no dissing anyone else blah blah blah. but you guys truely look good.

I've been fighting for three years. In those three years I've seen the general rank and file armor going up and up. Even at local fight practice. Less plastic, more period kits. Dunno if its like that everywhere, but something is catching on.
