Have any of you ever had one split and tear open on you?
I just recently acquired one and had constructed the weapon, but not used it yet. I had been completed for about a week and I noticed this morning that the head had almost completely split on one side.
Here are a few pics.

I used 1 1/4 inch rattan, so I am not sure what happened.
I have contacted revival and await a response. I am just curious if anyone else has ever encountered this.

Syr Rhys had it happen with a couple that he purchased- they tore on one side of the head once installed on the rattan. IIRC it was in the same place on both. He asked me about it because I have one from the first batch and he wanted to check how I had mounted mine and how thick my rattan was in case that was the issue. Mine was actually mounted on thicker rattan than his and has had no issues. this makes me suspect that they're is a bad batch out there. I'm not sure if he contacted Revival regarding his.

Did you increase the size of the hole before you put it on the rattan? The 4 in my household were all drilled to have a larger hole before being added to the rattan and have not had an issue.

I had not increased the size of the hole, as I did not know I needed to do so.
How would you go about drilling a hole in rubber with a hole of size (3/4" to 1") already there?

I used my head as it came as did Rhys.

As Cet said, I ordered two for my class from Purpleheart and both of them ripped out at the same spot on the corner. I then ordered two replacements and both of those went on without any problem. The only thing we did differently was to lubricate them just a bit with a mixture of dish soap and water (Cet's suggestion!). I'm convinced that the two I got were a bad lot; yours may have been from the same lot.
:::sigh::: I wish we could still get the old-style Rathbone ones; not as cool looking, but much better in other ways.

Hey Wulfe -
IIRC, those are not legal in the Midrealm unless you pad the striking points....
Just a head up - you might email Brannos to be certain.

I also used the soap/water lubrication to set the head in place. Everything went according to plan while making the weapon. I encountered nothing I did not expect. After finishing the weapon last weekend and showing it off at practice, it was hung on the wall with my other weapons in my shop. It has not even been used. I went out into the shop this morning and noticed that the head looked funny, so I pulled it down and and saw that the head had split.

I was wondering if I was the only one...mine split in the exact same place, very little use, used lubricant to get it on a small piece of rattan, was hanging out in the overhead and then I saw it was looking rather odd. When I pulled it down it had split right down the side. I'm interested in how they are going to handle this, I've been debating on calling them to find out. Keep us posted.

Ran out to the garage and mine is fine, attatched it to its pole 3 or so weeks ago, shaved the pole down a little and used soapy water to lubricate it; still was not easy to get in on. Have only used it once so far as I'm still having some shoulder issues.

Same day response from Revival. I was told to mail it back for a replacement.

We used a a 1 1/4 inch hole saw. I have would block with the out line of the hammer head on it to keep the hole lined up. We just extend the hole a little more. It takes a bit because of the thick rubber, but the fit is still snug.
I will look and see if I have any pictures of how we do it.

I took a saw to the rattan. Cut it down from the top in a hexagonal shape like a real hammer haft, as soon as i get the handle shaped Im going to make sure the thing is legal as a one handed weapon in this kingdom (Gleann Abhean)
