Good Morrow from Tokyo,
Next May my family and I will be moving to the DC area. The work on my part will be beyond stressful and my better half will be tied up with the house, kids (5 &10…that “pubertyâ€

I'll do my best:
1st 10-15 minutes = warm up and drills (build the muscle memory while fresh and get the muscles warm)
next 30-40 minutes = fighter 1 holds the field against everyone else, then he/she rotates out and fighter 2 does the same, etc, etc. If it is just you and your wife only, try using different weapons styles for every pass, then start over at the beginning until you just can't go anymore. You can also change weapons styles with more than two folks.
Next 10 = minutes footwork drills such as cariocas, ladder drills, etc
Last 10 = stretch
It may be that you'll need to do most of your metabolic conditioning outside of practice and let your endurance at practice be your barometer of how you are doing.
This is off the cuff but I hope it helps. I'd love to come visit but the commute from Texas is hell.

P.S. Did you all get your wife's armor all done?

Nice setup!
My better half is still working on her armour, but we're both terribly busy. I fought this weekend for the first time since Pennsic. It was nice to fight, but man that was a long stretch.

Honestly? -
Take those 3 hours all at once - devote 1 to commuting - and go to the College Park practice. It is the most solid practice in the entire DC area and attracts very high level fighters.
In the end you'll waste less time armoring up and armoring down, warming up and cooling down, etc. And spending a little time with better fighters will teach you more than spending a lot of time with worse fighters.
Otherwise - wait and see where you end up, network a little and try to set up something with someone you are near and click with. There are some great people in suburban Md. It's a busy area - almost everyone is running around going nuts and feels they have little spare time. And the driving can be pretty hellish. So if it actually works out to be more efficient/effective to have a home mini-practice, they may well be interested. But there are a lot of dangers in becoming insular and not fighting a wide variety of people often. At least housing prices are down a bit.

Sounds like a good plan. I'll definately go out to the College Park Practice. It sounds cheaper and better. It leaves more time for cub scouts, swim meets and other family things while at the same time costing me little and my better half and I get to fight some of the best fighters in the SCA. I really don't see a down side to this except for the commute...know of any inexpensive houses next to St. Andrews Episcopal Church?
Looks like it's well thought out, and even less than seven miles from my work. Now if I can get my better half to drive in to fight with us...
