Thank you to all who braved the early intermittant rain to take part. It did not seem to dampen anyone's enthusiasm and eventually God smiled and the downpour abated, leaving a nice view of Long Island Sound at the fighting field. VDK & Bloodguard turned out in force and fought with their usual enthuiasm while demonstrating excellent small unit tactics and strategy. It was fun to watch. Even the combat archery :)

Hopefully we can do this again next year without any rain and have even more attendees.

D. from about 2:00 on we did not have much rain, we actually had some sunshine. One little rain in the evening, but it did not last long. After the outdoor pig roast/feast, the storytelling by the campfire was still going when I left around 2:30AM.

And Cullen & Brennen might come out to ride the horses this year. The more the merrier.

If anyone who attended has photos of the people a' horseback I would appreciate seeing them. I do not have any good pics of myself riding in soft kit.
Thanks in advance.

I hope Acre hosts this on a regular basis. The site is terrific and easy to get to.

I noticed the site has some wooded paths and shore trails. Could we ever use them for a battle?

Just a quick thanks to both VDK, Bloodguard, & others who braved the forecast of doom & gloom. We, the Kingdom of Acre, had a great time hosting & fighting with everyone.

It was a real pleasure meeting some other Archivers I only knew from the forum. I hope you all can make it back next year.

BTW - Lucas, good luck on your move down south.

I think as long as their is interest, we would be more than happy to host a war event. Maybe even two.

Yes, there are many paths in the area. I've never walked them myself, so I can't say if they would suffice for a battle. It can be looked into.

My biggest dream is to have a large scale battle on the field between the two castles. Every once in a while I gaze out across that field and can just see it. W/ the right number of fighters, it would be kick @ss!

This was a very enjoyable battle for me. I thought the battlefield was planned well, the forces split evenly, and the fighting carried out with both a sense of fun and intensity. Rare to see both, IMHO, in one battle.
The idea of having the battle on the lawn between the castles is an excellent one. Hopefully that idea can become a reality for next year, as word of this event spreads. I will hopefully be able to come up for the next war and continue the honor and privilege of fighting with the Acre host.

There are plenty of paths, woods, etc.

There are three issues.

1) There is sometimes poison ivy all over the place. This year there are already warning signs up in many places where you can see the vines.

2) We'd need Sands Point's permission, though they might give it. But there might be some significant restrictions. It is a nature preserve and some of the trails/woods have flora they probably don't want trampled underfoot.

3) The trails in the parts of the preserve not marked off limits to non-staff, are often frequented by hikers, nature lovers and boy scouts, whatever. So it might be tricky to do this safely and have enough marshals to keep the wandering public out of harms way.

There are woods on the hilly area to the left of the main lawn behind Hempstead house. It might be easier to rope off a fielded section and part of some wooded areas and have a mixed terrain battle. And I don't see why we could not fight on the beach, assuming Sands Point does not care. We fought on the beach a long time ago with just Acre in fairly small numbers (steps lead down to it from right by the left side of the lawn area that the siege was fought in), I don't know if that is still allowed or if the size of the event/larger number of fighters would be an issue.

The poison ivy would not be a good thing. Its oil would get on armor and never get off. I can see people getting cases from handling their armor for a long time afterwards and never knowing where or how. Combine that with the heat and sweat from fighting...

Maybe a few longboats and a Viking raid on the Beach? :D
