Well, I attempted my deed of arms yesterday at Caid Crown Tourney. I say attempted, because I was only able to take 24 of the 40 fights I desired. It wasn't because I gave up, there was just noone left to fight. Perhaps others who were there can vouch for my efforts to complete the 40 fights. Here is a quick snapshot of what I remember, and I would appreciate any who witnessed this to chime in:

The Good:
Armour Archive love: rameymj, Reverend, Proxus, Alex Baird, rhys, ashraf and more I'm sure either participated by fighting, or made the deed possible by their generousity. If you don't get how awesome this forum is, you better ask somebody.

Fighter Quality: Hauoc Duke Bender , Duke Guillaume, Sir Rhys, Sir Phillipe, Sir Ashraf, Sir Jamal, Master Gareth, Her Majesty, Queen of the West, Don Alexander Baird, and a number of unbelteds who all were extremely gracious, generous, and full of prowess.

Caid Love: Between Viscondessa Jimena posting notice of the deed all over site, to allowing an anouncement to be made during opening court, Lady Eilidh making the announcement and heralding ALL DAY, Wilhelm constructing the barrier and assisting me all day, Jethro and Patraic O'Ceallaigh hanging with me almost all day long, His Majesty drumming up fighters for me... gotta love that!

The Bad:

Heat: It was in the 80's most of the day, making fighting hot work and tiring fighters out, so those who made it into the later rounds of Crown were, I think, very eager just to get out of armor, so I did not face as many as I hoped. Also, heat and cheese do not mix...

Forgetting stuff: Like the favor my sister made for me and the arming cap my wife made.... Guess I was bound to forget something.

The Ugly:

Some of the bruises I got, especially a shot on my neck from Sir Jamal. I'll try to get pictures. Note to self: Take the time to make sure that your lid is tied on tight before taking the field... idiot.

Over all, I think my sister would have loved the day, and would be satified with my effort. I did everything I could to not cast her in a bad light, and I like to think I accomplished my goal.

This was a very successful deed (actually a Pas d' Armes).

I would actually like to comment on this deed that happened on Saturday..




I have only done a Pas' ONCE in my SCA career. This was one that I couldn't pass up.

you do the memory of your sister proud and you comported yourself with dignity, respect, puissance, and above all HONOR.

I will promise this to you, as many events that I see you at, I will cross swords with you to finish your 40 fights


Sir Cedric, you have a good squire, I was going to fight one more with him, but my lady was doing autocrat stuff and I had the sleeping baby on me....


Thank you david for the gifts you gave us both, unfortunately I was not able to locate you to drink that beer with... maybe next time..

To be fair, it is the beginning of April.

I live in Burbank, where I'll see triple digits for days or weeks at a time, and it won't rain until November, if I'm lucky!

But it IS a dry heat...

But it's not uncommom for it to be in the upper 80's early in April, and humid as the inside of a sweatsock after gym class.

Im a desert rat lived in phx since 77. been living in Santa Barbara for almost 5 years now, it was 80 or up , no wind to speak of, mt truck thermometer said 91 when we left the site at 300pm today.

but still a good day

Your Deed / Pas has inspired me. If ever we meet, perhaps Gulf Wars or Pennsic next year, I would love to raise a toast to your sister and / or cross swords with you in her memory. Reading this and the thread preceeding the deed, warmed my heart.

I'm glad it went as it should have, to do all that you can is to do enough. I know you would have fought all that came to your field in memory of your sister, 24 was the number that came to you. If you hade 124, you would have done that, for her.
I'll call tonight ot Tues for a total recap.
