kooky idea (combat archery, so if you don't like CA...don't)

I'm sure everybody's played some variation on the tower defense games out there. So picture teams of 5 CA's, a "tower", a path laid out, five or so opposing people wearing enough armor to get shot at, one hit each the first time through. Etc etc etc.

From an archery side it sounds like lots of fun from the getting shot at side it sounds boring but I guess you get to swap over and take turns.

Would the opposing side be able to use shields?

We are trying to get combat archery going (as opposed to target archery) in our barony and this sounds like it could be fun for them.

I am not sure I get it.

Are you talking basically an archery range with live targets moving towards you?

If it was kids on the archery side, it would be cool.

I'd be a moving target for that...

I'd volunteer.
It would help cure my Yosemite Sam-style reactions to being shot with arrows.

okeydoke... more verbiage needed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_defense

this is more complicated than what I had in mind but the gist of it is the same. Defending archers laid out along a path which "invaders" have to walk along while getting shot at. For the first "Wave", one hit in any location is sufficient to kill the invader. Second wave, one hit in an actual kill zone. Third wave, two hits. Fourth wave, the "invaders" get to use shields. For the invaders, you'd have three or four teams of archers competing, with one team rotating as the invaders, or you could use a group of heavies that don't mind getting shot at as the invaders.

I don't think changing resistances or anything would be a good idea; too complicated.

So basically you are looking for target practice for the archers in the towers?

Sort of, but in a way that makes it a competitive CA tournament.

How about instead you make it more interesting for everyone.

Give the archers the targets. Say 3 heavies per archer. Let the heavies have shields. 5 shots on a shield makes you loose the arm and shield.

But the heavies get to run the path. If they get close enough they have to kill the archer. The archer's job is to stop them from getting that close.

Teaches the archers more accuracy and gives the heavies a chance to get the archers back. And make the whole damn thing a res battle.

as one of the harder waves that sounds like a likelihood. I can't make it a res unless we time it though. The easiest way to define a winner is to see whether anybody can kill all their targets.

Ahhh... I get it. The archers are split up into teams and the team of archers in the tower are trying to kill the team of archers rushing the tower before they reach it.

A real CA tournament. Cool, have fun.

"rushing" the tower being figurative though.

...at least until the later rounds.
