Very pretty.
Be a shame to actually fight with that.

It's DONE! I've got it finished, finally.
I'm really happy with the final product.
It will probably debute at the Midrealm
Rose Tourney....
Since the great crash ate the original thread...
here is a review....

B-E-A-utiful!!! Now let's see the back

Does the stitching on the corners go through the shield or is it on top of the wood? Also, what is the edging...leather? Truly outstading!

Aluminum shield.
Canvas contact cemented onto surface.
Heavy leather edging ( about 3/16" thick )
Really really glad I did not use trim-lock edging
Stitching all the way around leather.
Chicago screws hold it in place ( easy to take
off for touch-ups and repairs )
Painted with acrylic paints.
Didn't mix the colors to hopefully make color matching
touch-ups easier later.
Pic of back later....
( starting to think about what to do with the shield
I'll be getting from Vitus now...... Gotta really reach
to top this one....)

Saw it in person before it was strapped up: it gets ya twice, once when you see it, and again when you realize it's not a print or anything.

The idea is to hit the man bearing the shield, not the shield itself. An inspiring piece of work, truly.

I'm sorry but if I were the inspecting marshal I'd have to say no.
Any behavior that takes deliberate advantage of an opponent’s chivalry or safety-consciousness, or
that takes deliberate unfair advantage of an opponent, is prohibited.
Marshals handbook III B 6
The natural reluctance to risk messing up that shield is an unfair advantage
Seriously, that's a fantastic job. Well done.

That is a truly elegant piece.
The only way I'd ever achieve something like that is if someone painted it for me. I have no skill as an artist. Even the anchors on my arms are more an exercise in draughtsmanship than art.

Now I do not like the edging on my other shield...
That leather was not too hard to put on and it looks
really nice.....
Emailed Thorfinn ( a local guy ) about another shield blank....
It never ends does it?
