Greetings,
I would like to thank His Grace Icefalcon for not splattering me all over the field at Pennsic during the second field battle.
I had just finished helping the Midrealm Army and Allies mop up the (from my point of view) right center opposing group as we crossed the backfield in front of East Royal shade pavillion.
During this engagement, I had fallen over someone and the buckle on my right leg harness had come undone.. not broke... undone.
As things moved on, I found that I could not keep up with the rest of the troops and reform with them. At this point I saw Captain (now Sir) Gunnar had been legged. It is not something that is normally done, but I went to stand by the legged Captain and provide him some shield support.
At this point, we had about 6 or so Eastern Army and Allied coming at us... a couple of spears, poles and shieldmen. One of the spearman was a knight and I ended up going after him... (he was in all black with an open-face helm). By luck, I dispatched him and was reforming to the Captain's side, when I had this nice courtesy tap on the back of my helm and someone letting me know they were there. Requesting proper engagement.
As I turned, I blocked a couple of head/upper body shots but was then legged. As I went down to my knees, I noticed who it was. It was his Grace Icefalcon. He was already on the move to go after more formidable opponents.
In the past, I have been blasted in the back/back-of-the-head during big field battles. It was most pleasant and, in a way, comforting that I was not clobbered and smeared into the ground like a bug.
To His Grace, Thank You Sir.
To all the Eastern fighters I met and contested with at Pennsic... Thank you all. It was, to me, one of the cleanest, best fought wars in my 11 years.
I made sure to find persons that I was aligned against in the ranks and thank them for a great time and for their heart, valor and courtesy on the field.
Gratefully
Gilebert

I was spared a beating once this year when I feel back over a guy.
I say that the East and Midrealm should gather all applicable allies and we should invade the Known World West of the Mississippi.

Can you imagine it? How could we possibly pull off a World War? The site would have to be dementedly huge.

It could be done.. Pennsic holds about 15 thousand at absolute (current) max.
I figure that would be about half the total attendence (figuring EVERYONE AND THEIR BROTHER).
Festivals get many more people than that.. though usually not with as large tents.. that's usually dome-tent-village.
Hmmm.....

Well, Lutr has sons. Perhaps Konrad has a daughter he could marry off, or the daughter of one of his barons, to secure the loyalty.
As for the location, I'd say somewhere out west, larger, flatter land. even the desert.
I'm all for Imperialism.

Once every 10 years we should have a Known World War.
Man, 20k people on site? Might be a little overboard.

Atenveldt will just do the same thing we do when we go East of the Mississippi:
Kill with a 26 to 1 ratio.
We never told you guys that us out-west folk use Pennsic as a leisurely training warm up for Estrella.
Come on out. We would love to play with you guys some more.

I think it was Estrella five that a King from back East whom I cannot recall (not necesarilly East Kingdom I dunno) was out for his first Estrella and he said during court that in his experience Pennsic was like a tea party to Estrellas bar-room brawl.

It was before they razed the broken field at Estrella park I'm pretty sure.
Don't know how much things have changed since back then but....
g,d,r!
I guess as a guy who doesn't fight SCA anymore I oughta shut up, but remembering that made me smile.

Oh, the new broken field has extra special kinds of moon dust and all sorts of chaos.
The guys willing to charge through the thorn bushes out there have special levels of badassery.

Gilebert,
I cannot say enough how much fun it was this year fighting our brothers in the Midrealm. I would LOVE the opportunity to stand side by side with you all some time. I was inspired by the hard fighting and honorable character of the Mid Army all war.
A world war held somewhere in the middle of the country, so more folks can make it by car would be an outstanding idea. I love the idea and you could count on my coming with the Bloodguard. We live for that kind of action. Between all of the kingdoms, we would have expert staff to run such a war. This would be a great event for the fall. Maybe over Columbus day weekend and the preceding week.
Yeah....count me in....

Gosh.. guys, you know you're talking about doing what (as I understand it) Pennsic was about in the first place ?
According to one of the legends, Pennsic was initiated to determine who would lead the East & Middle against the rest of the Knowne World (at the time that would have been the West and Atenveldt).

I'm afraid I'm the closest thing HRM Konrad has to a daughter, and my husband, my Prince, and the mundane authorities might object to a match between me and one of HRM Lutr's sons.
Her Majesty Brenwen has a lovely fifteen-year old ward by the name of Katheryn, though, who might suit. (And she's going to kill me very, very dead if she ever gets wind of this...)

C'mon.. make with the rest of the story.. it was Cariadoc who sent the arrow with the declaration of war on it. Then promptly switched jobs, and kingdoms, and won Crown. And had the arrow delivered.. to himself.
Hence becoming one of the very few Kings to ever declare war on himself, and win!

Or declare war on himself and lose.

Not quite . . . Cariadoc declared war on himself, and
lost.
Cariadoc was King of the Middle when the first Pennsic War Arrow was sent out. Then he moved East and by the time the War Arrow arrived, he was King of the East, winding up on the losing side.
I hate to admit it, as a quondum Easterner; but the Midrealm had a long winning streak in the early Pennsics. It was not until Pennsic X that the East posted a victory.
The idea that the winner of the Pennsic War would lead the East and Middle against other Kingdoms came at some point after Pennsic V, because I remember it being announced at a Great Court in the Barn.
This was announced after the Pennsic Victory Banner was first presented. It depicted a blue Tyger and a green Dragon rampant combatant, and was held in the custody of the winning kingdom. I don't know if its whereabouts are still known, but for a time it was kept like a sacred Oriflamme and only flown at Pennsic.

I didn't bother with that part because this audience is largely familiar with that part.
There is/has been some confusion though as to the reason for the War - no, it was never "loser gets Pittsburgh" despite all rumors to the contrary

No, not Pittsburgh . . . the Debatable Lands. That's why that area was
called the Debatable Lands.
But because of the aforementioned long losing streak, by the time the East achieved a victory those Lands were debatable in name only, so they never did actually change hands.
