Eadric of Stonemarche: Couter Tenan

Eadric was made a Tenan of the Couter at the Combat of 30 at Pennsic. His story is still to be told, but he owes it to us. Here we are under my banner, couter in his hands, while the pennan of Jehan de Pelham blows into the scene from the right.

Since posting a brief notice on the Chivalry board last week I have written and deleted the story at least three time. I'll finish it and post this weekend.
Thanks for the picture, though I will have to speak to my sunglass wearing Baron in the background. He'll catch flak for it I assure you. Then again, he says he has a large number of pictures of this and of the 30, so maybe his pennance can be sharing all the pics.

It's even better because the lady with her back to us is my own lady, who has never had the opportunity to be present for any of the Couter deeds, even though the arms I bore at the first deed, and which are emblazoned on the box the couter resides in, are hers.
To tell my own small part in the story, Alfred of Carlyle, who had taken on the burden of the Couter from Magnus, asked me to pass it on to a worthy of my choosing, as he was unable to complete the quest on his own. I chose Eadric for a simple reason, he and his lady had inspired me.
It wasn't until I attended the deed Tenaned by Magnus that I got to see the faces of the people who attended, and to meet the Tenans who had passed before him, and I started to understand how much the quest meant to so many other people. When I spoke to Magnus and some others about it, their eyes welled up with tears they were so moved by the day. I left the deed feeling very warm to have had a small part in something which inspired so many.
At that deed, there was a young man whose bearing struck me, and whose lady's quality was so evident that her smile lit up the area she was in. Each of them spoke at length with me of what the Couter Challenges symbolized for them, and it was their joy that most impressed me at that field.
When I failed to pass the Couter to someone at Lilies for lack of time to prepare, I knew it had to go to Eadric, but it would be passed in a fashion unlike the cultured deeds it had seen previously. Eadric and his lady already understood the nature of it, and I could pass it without need of great words or fancy gestures. So I determined to pass it to him where he would be surrounded by men of quality, the Combat of the Thirty.
The rest of the story is his to tell.

For those of us that bask in ignorance (me), might one give the briefest of descriptions as to what the Tenan of the Couter is? Is it, in the basest of terms, similar to a MVP?

Styling one as Tenan of the Couter indicates that one holds the Couter of Chivalry. The term "tenan" is a French-based word meaning "holder."
The Couter of Chivalry is an elbow-guard whose possession (one ought not to say ownership) signifies that in the mind of the previous Tenan, one's prowess, chivalry, and demeanour render him worthy of the honour.
One of the more complete collections of accounts of the Courter can be found in
this thread.

I was lucky enough to be present and I can tell you, I have complete faith that this resides with a worthy man.
I look forward to hearing the next tale.

I am away on vacation but have manages to sneak a peak at this.
I am thrilled to live in a world where this type of thing goes on.
I lack the word to describe the coolness of it all.
