Let all know well that we, The Canton of Summergate, do fervently believe in the ideals of the tournaments, the noble deeds of arms, and all that is Chivalrous. Thusly, we ever and foremost strive to bring honor to the one that inspires us. We request that all who may shall arm and clothe yourselves, as would your ancient ancestors of the 14-16th century.

The activities will take place at Buddy Todd Park, 3000 Mesa Drive, Oceanside CA 92054.

The site will open at 8:00 am. Weapons inspection will begin at 9:00 am. Opening Court will begin about 10:00 am with the List to close shortly thereafter. The site will close at 5:00 pm.

Competitions: There will be two Armored Lists – one for Long Sword and one for Great Sword. The winner of each list will do combat against the other for the overall winner of the day.

Additional prizes will be awarded for those who best use the techniques described by the Period Masters. We invite those who wish to present their best heraldic display to do so. Prizes will be also awarded to those consorts who most inspire their fighters. There will be a rapier list that will also be single sword only. There will be Unarmored Combat and Youth Combat.

Armored Combat Rules of the Day: Each bout will be with a single two-handed sword, where Long Swords will be from 44â€

Were I on that coast, I would certainly be there. It sounds like a fantastic time!

Longswords will be 44" to 60", and greatswords will be 60" to 90".

90 inches . . . seven and a half feet.

There was a knight in Atlantia who would fight with a greatsword of extreme length, the maximum allowed: Either 7 or 7-1/2. It looked ungainly but he had the dynamics figured out and used it very effectively.

Thanks Proxus! I should have posted the date.

We actually run two tournaments and the winners of each fight it off for a championship. We alternate rounds, so people can fight in both tourneys.

The winner of the greatsword tournament last year used many of the WMA longsword moves during the day successfully.

We had quite a few come from out of town because there are so few venues where those specializing in two handed sword work can compete against their fellows.

We always bring extra weapons and guantlets. We also will authorize that day for those who need great weapons authorization.

Each tourney will be standard double elim, but you are guaranteed 4 fights if you enter both + pickups...

Also to note, this site has an ocean view and usually sea breezes.

It is a mile or so from the beach, but up on the hills. One can usually wear period woolens without being uncomfortable at this site (a rarity in So. CA).

I recommend cloaks or cotes...

There is an extensive playground in the park for those who have little ones. Come early to snag parking. I expect by 11 am, it will start getting crowded. There is a parking lot and street parking.
