A: Does your mother in law know that you have plans for her? If however you are referring to the bovine variety there are some points to consider with regard to ammunition. Firstly the ballista has a fairly narrow launch channel designed to accommodate a stone ball of about 350mm diameter which is launched by a sling behind the it. Clearly a cow would require a much larger ‘slipway’ and of course a sling of equal proportions. In addition, whilst festering cows were a favourite in times of siege to spread disease amongst the enemy I have a feeling that these days there might be certain conventions controlling the use of biological weapons. However adaptation of the ballista to accommodate dysfunctional relatives is a possibility.

I thought too that 100 yards are not so much, But I didn't know that ballista shoot rocks, i figured it shoot very big "arrows".

They shot both... depending on how the slide and sling were made.

The carriage is made of oak and ash; painted the original Civil War color of olive drab. Heavy steel tires are 2 1/4" wide with oak felloes; 34" in diameter with 14 spokes. Tread is 45". The steel axle, wood cases as original is 1 1/4" square with a tapered spindle at each end going into a boxing which is pressed into a wooden hub. Spindle ends have a left and right hand nut that keeps the wheels in place. Diameter of the heavy wood hub with the correct reinforcing steel ring is 8". Muzzle of the barrel to the tail of the carriage in 6'10". Parts such as the trunnion plate, trunnion cap plate, lunette and trail plate, pointing rings at the end of the tail piece and many, many other odd parts are all brass. The accessories include: wrench for axle nut, two trail plates, hand spike, sponge, rammer, correct heavy duty steel worm, linstock properly drilled , and matchlock fuse. Mord it might not be so bad with customs after all it is not in a usable condition, sadly this also means it's suboptimal for home defense Balin.

If I remember the show right one of the oval pieces holding the bungies (they found sinew in those quantities hard to source in the available time scale) started to split after 2 or 3 shots. Prehaps a copy of their plans and a good think about improving it would be both better for the wallet and easier to post ...

...It will not fire again, but will make an excellent demonstration piece.

Meh... If I'm gonna spend that kind of cash I want one that works.
