I'd like to collect as many late medieval/Renaissance manuscript images as possible of men in full plate armour--preferably 15th or early 16th century--carrying shields on foot into combat.

Joaquin,

I am not sure, but to the best of my recollection, most such images are usually associated with siegecraft

I am not sure if this is a tactical choice or an artistic convention.

Tough there is one here of a sally on foot

I am not sure, but perhaps it had to do less with the concern of standard weapons as with protection from rocks, quicklime and other stuff thrown down by the defenders.....
