Yeah, it is not evident in that pic but the knuckle bow is welded low on the front of the pommel and won't go into a bar grill. I did accidentally dent someones helm with one once when he closed way faster than I expected though

Those door trim shields scare me more. I have long vertical bars with no horizontal reenforcement (perfectly legal) on my helm. Entirely possible to have one enter my helm. Unlikely as all heck but possible.

Gotta agree with this one. Is even the prettiest basket hilt good looking on a kit from a time/place that didn't use them?

With enough momentum, anything is possible...

But yeah...I'd have to work hard and have some equipment failure.

The non-rattan version is also more pronounced than the rattan basket, as Sir Johann pointed out.

The issue there is that neither are gauntlets on a kit from a time and/or place that didnt use them Given that argument it *could* be argued that cups are easier than getting sca legal gaunts - especially finger gaunts.

The one with the fishtale pommel was pretty for a cuphilt.

The Ironmonger "heartshaped" hilts pictured here are a direct copy of the pattern adapted from a historic sabre gaurd created by Duke Michael of Bedford over 20 years ago. Michael used to pay for his Pennsic trip by taking a couple of dozen to Pennsic each year (all of which were presold). Later on, Zen Warrior acquired the right to mass produce the design from Michael upon their agreement to return some of the profits to the Kingdom of Atlantia.

As a marshal I would not have a problem with it. I do not think the pommel piece extends very far past the basket. If you look at the picture that has a rattan attached to it.

Also, I do not see it reasonably penetrating a grill. If it is, then the user has bigger issues than a penetrated pommel. He is striking his opponent with the hilt of his sword and that is all bad.

I thought they were good just wasn't 100% from the pic I looked at and if anyone had had ever had a issue. They make quality stuff at that shop.

Yes, a good looking cup hilt looks better than an ugly one.

If i wanted comments on fighting in gauntlets, I'd have asked that question. I did not.

Who makes this one..anyone fought with this..and yes I agree with aluminum shields with car molding..they look better than alot of shields but over the years I have seen them way too often too near my eyeslots to be comfortable.
