I will be fifty years old tomorrow. I fought at least a dozen mellees today and then hunted white leather in pickups.
Warm up. Stretch. Wear armour that protects you well. Don't be stupider than you have to be.
As far as resting injuries goes. I dont. Sort of. If my hand is broken I fight with the other one till the broken one gets better. If my knee is jacked up I fight without moving much. I guess I'd do it from a chair if I had to.
Hmmm. Comfy chair do. Could probably do it if I had one with a swivel base.

While it was blood clots that killed them. The clots were not from brusing or from SCA combat. Please don't use their deaths out of context or in an improper context.
Saint Sever had a near fatal aortic aneurysm that burst and died due to a stroke as a result of surgery.
Sarnac does provide a relevant example to this topic. He as injured in the Fall 06' Ealdormere Crown. Had to take time off to heal, as one should. Only he replaced the physical activity he was unable to do with hours in front of the computer sitting. Over time this caused blood clots to form in his lower legs. Which then started to travel and lodge in the capilaries of the air sacs in his lungs. It's call
pulmonary embolism. Ever hear of people on long flights developing clots, that's it. Basically, he suffocated. So, if you are out due to injure, make sure to get some sort of alternate physical activity no matter how little or low impact. Don't be sedentary.
Remember to do your
Sarnac Stretches!

You're my fucking hero Nissan. Thirty years from now I hope I will be in as good shape as you are now. One of these days we will finally get the chance to fight, and it will be epic!
So what I've gathered is pretty much common sense, it just makes a difference when heard from other sources.
don't get fat, exercise often, exercise as to mimic the movements/force used in our sport, work out rotator cuffs as often as possible, pull back the reins when injured, take some sort of blood thinner, watch out with wraps, stretch before and after with the correct types of stretches and have fun doing it all.
Thank all of you for your words of wisdom, and please keep them coming if you feel something it missing, or even if you discover something new that works for you. I'm always open to new suggestions as I'm sure most of us are.

Going to DISagree on this one. A daily dose of aspirin is often prescribed by doctors for folks who are at high risk for vascular or heart disease. It is absolutely not recommended for "general use" by folks who have not had their health reviewed by someone trained to do so. Remember, aspirin has many effects, only one of which is the reduction of clot formation. You're also more likely to suffer major bleeds from relatively minor injuries; you're at risk for GI bleeds, especially if you drink while on the meds; it has negative consequences for your immune system; etc.
It can be a lifesaving medicine for the right person, under the right circumstances. But you should *always* consult a medical professional before starting a daily regimen of a drug, even an over the counter one.

Happy Birthday Nissan.
I was hoping you would be at NOAM yesterday.
We had lots of melees, bridges and Gates of Roming.
I did not do any pickups, but I am 53.

I had a paid gig at Border Skirmish where my employers (The fromage kingdom of Northshield) and house Clovenshield crushed the Midrealm forces.
I believe that Northern Illinois is now part of Northshield and this frontier area is called Guntherland, In honour of Sir Gunther Kegslayer.
Guntherland, Oh Guntherland you are the best
Guntherland Guntherland cuz our flag has breasts...
