Archivers, I have made several of these basket hilts for folks in the household and they are very popular. They are very light wieght. A few of the guys in the house want to help me build them to make some crafting mad money or trade for some cool stuff.

I wouldn't mine trying one out to replace my nasty beat up old aluminum one. My only issue would be the looping flourish bit on the back of the hilt but that looks easy enough to leave off.
Also how well will the dished out areas on the side hold to the center spine area with the number of rivets you've used? After repeated beatings the aluminum rivets stretch out and the aluminum itself is ripping in places in my current hilt. It's got me jumpy.
If I'm not really clear I'll show you at MGT, assuming your going. I'd love to see one of your hilts in person there.

Insane, I can make the hole the 1, 1.25, 1.5 etc.

I can probably also etch the hilts with some artistic things. I going to build another one for myself soon and etch griffins in the side. I can post the result if folks are interested.

Sir Malcolm, I will be at MGT. Maybe we can cross swords some if you have time. I have made 4 of the baskets and have yet to loose a rivit. One hilt I have fought with a lot over the past 3 years and recently beat out dents, I did tightened a few rivits but it was still solid. I can place additional rivits if desired. The rivits are steel or brass. The spine of the hilt is also dished although it is hard to see in the pics.

The flourish was originally placed to provide an addition attachment for a hose clamp for securing the hilt rather than the tangs that break off. It can left off with no problem. I can also add a tang if it proves needed.

I stand by my work. If it fails then I will fix it or make it right by you. I also welcome feedback to improve what I build.

Well the etching idea has me a bit tingly. I may have to talk to you about that. The steel rivets are probably the solution. I can't be sure but I'm willing to bet my current hilt has aluminum rivets.

I'll save you a dance at MGT. Don't think we've fought since Turf Wars and I was so numb from the cold I can barely remember that weekend.
