Why plastic and not metal?
Metal ones look better, and are simpler to obtain, either by making one or buying one.

Valkyrie forge makes plastic ones that are just as easy to obtain as any metal one, and when painted look just as good.

They are durable, light, protective and easy to obtain. The "matching" handle is a super nice feature.

But they do not look as good. Not even close. They look like plastic; just like the Baldar cup hilts.

INHO, when painted, they are as nice or nicer than spun bosses. But it really is a matter of opinion, and not fact.

Well I think a simple one could be made from a 12" 3/16 circle of kydex heated then pressed around an appropriate bowl.
Check the temp when thermal forming plastics.

You can find the shield boss and handle from Valkyrie Forge here: http://houseasgard.com/BaldarBlunts/#shield

$25 for the boss, and $10 for the handle

The handle is nice because the plastic it is made of can be shaped on a grinder. It is also designed so the weight of the shield balances further back on your hand. This lessens the tendency for the shield to pull your wrist down and you get less fatigue.

No sense in reinventing the wheel

That said, if you want to try it, I agree that you will need a mold. In fact I would suggest a two piece mold, inside and outside. Otherwise you may not be able to control bunching/folding. I'm not sure how much you will thin the material if you stretch it out that far.

thanks for all the replies. I want a kydex shield boss because it is light weight and i work with kydex. Shield bosses have been one of the things that has eluded me in the past and i need to face up to them. Again thanks and i will be sure to check out the website with the plastic ones.
