Im looking for a pair of Roman caligae. Anyone know of any place where I could get a pair that is worth its salt.

Damn!
I wish you had asked me a year ago...
There was this little African curiosity shop in Kalamazoo Michigan that had leather sandals IDENTICAL to what the Roman Legions wore. The only difference was the absence of hobnails.
But I figured I could add a second leather sole glued to the first, with roofing nails punched through the second (point down) and then cut the nails short (1/4 inch) with a dremmel.
Bingo! Hobnailed sandals!
But I don't live there anymore.
I don't know if they still have them or what the name of the shop even was.

Master Ulliam in Caid (SCA) makes a great pair. He's well researched and very tallented. You can find him at baron@dreiburgen.org. Hope this helps

The MusRep ones aren't very good. La Wren's Nest is getting some in soon from Germany, that, by reports, will be very nice. At all costs avoid the ones from Osprey, they're crap.

Check out the Legio XX website for more info and patterns.

My wife and I both bought a pair at great western war III. I don't remember who from right off hand, but I could probably find out. They're very comfortable and are holding up great after 1 1/2 yrs.
