Sting / Mainz Gladius *SOLD*
Another waster prototype. I haven't decided on a price for this yet. Make me an offer.

I never stay in one place for three of my opponent's blows. I also never let my opponent throw three unanswered blows. Standing in front of your opponent lets him perfect his pell technique. Most fighters are very good against a pell. - Duke Gyrth

Nice shaving bench!
Can you post the plans for it?
Thanks,

Re: Sting / Rattan Greek Hoplite Long Knife
Can you give me specific dimensions on it? Width at widest, weight, blade length, thrusty?
I think it might work for a project I am trying this winter.

That's a really hard price to get anyone to pay.

That is really nice. I know a few out here who would like that.

Re: Sting / Rattan Greek Hoplite Long Knife
Is there a requirement in the SCA to cover the rattan with tape? Coming from games that use latex, Plastidip, or even cloth, the tape looks.... unfortunate.

Re: Sting / Rattan Greek Hoplite Long Knife
Tape is most common. Here is what the rules actually say:hivemind wrote:Is there a requirement in the SCA to cover the rattan with tape? Coming from games that use latex, Plastidip, or even cloth, the tape looks.... unfortunate.
5. All weapons shall have all cutting edges and thrusting tips marked in a contrasting color.
6. The striking surfaces of all weapons, including the tip, shall be wrapped in a manner that allows no rattan splinters to protrude.
The sword above has a layer of strapping tape under a layer of mylar "chrome" duct tape, with yellow electrical tape on tip and edges. I usually use black for edges and red for tips but am out of both colors.

Hmm. What are the options that don't look like tape? Heat shrink tubing maybe?

11. Rattan shall not be treated in any way that will substantially reduce its flexibility (e.g., treated with wax, resin, fiberglass, etc.).

Lest I be "that guy", am I to assume that everyone just uses tape, and that I should get used to it?

Re: Sting / Rattan Greek Hoplite Long Knife
Tape is the standard; however plain round 1 1/4" rattan rods with a rigid hand-cage are also the norm. Learn the norm but don't be afraid to make improvements once you understand the 'whys' behind the norm. I do.

Ok, I am dumb at this, what would be a fair price for this one guys, so I can see if I can afford it and make a reasonable offer if I can...

I'm seconding Glaukos. I really like it but not sure what to offer. Secondly, are you willing to do another?

Re: Sting / Rattan Greek Hoplite Long Knife
I'm guessing $80 for future ones, but I'm willing to let this one go for quite a bit less.
