WTB 14-15th century belt (specs inside)

I'd rather buy a belt from a craftsman here than throw my money toward one of the Windlass belts. So here is what I'm looking for:

  • Can be in my hands the week of October 24th (or sooner).
  • Budget of $50-100
  • ~1.5" wide and ~65" long
  • Black leather
  • 14th-15th century appropriate European styled hardware with preference given to something German origins.
  • Buckle + strapend are required. Belt mounts are optional, but would be nice if feasible for my budget.

Wish list item: integrated, lefty, 14th/15th century appropriate, sword scabbard retention mechanism of awesomeness +1, suitable for a longsword

Please let me know if this is a feasible project for you or if you can point me towards someone/somewhere that can.

Sean

you need to take a look at raymond's quiet press... https://www.quietpress.com/

and this link on how its done... Windlass and Hanwei have it all wrong... its much prettier to do it right http://www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic ... t=scabbard

Thanks for the link, but it looks as though only hardware is sold there, not complete belts?

That would seem to be a thread on scabbard creation. Did you mean to post something else?

I think he was pointing you to options for doing it yourself.
The past couple of dress belts I made from bronze hardware ran about $130 each just for the supplies of parts without assembly ($3.50 belt mounts x 25 = $85, + buckle and chape $30, + belt blank $15 + shipping). And this was a narrow dress type belt. Not a chunky belt for slinging a sword.
Finding something from $50-$100 pre-fabbed, with sword hanger (for a lefty) and mountings,
you'll probably have to hope someone's getting rid of one used and willing to take a hit.

I think you could probably put one together yourself for about $50-$75 if you went with pewter mounts. You can get buckle and strap end from Raymond's or Armour and Castings for around $25 for the pair (add a few dollars if you want them silvered). Billy and Charlie for mounts. You'll have to get the leather belt blank(s) from someone like Viking Leathercrafts. In fact they also have buckles (no chapes or mountings though).

If doing silver, the lead-free pewter is close enough in color from a distance. You can make pewter mounts look brass by dabbing on some light brown dye and clear coating.
