Colorado Leather Factory

I'm no leather expert, so pardon the lame explanations:

I was down at the Colorado Leather Factory outlet yesterday and they had four sheets of 'armour leather' that were probably 4x5 rectangles or so... looked to be very seriously thick leather, thicker than my 6-8 oz. latigo stuff... anyway it was marked down to 5.99 a pound. If anyone is interested. It was the very pale looking stuff (I'm not a leather expert) that I think is the type that is good for hardening.

sounds like it was vegetable tanned leather, indeed the stuff that can be hardened. It can also be beautifuly tooled and dyed.

5.99/sq. is not a bad price either, especialy if it's around 12-14Oz

YMMV

Sounds a little high to me. Weaver leather has 14-16 oz veg tanned leather for 4.80/sq.ft. Dunno about the shipping though. Anyhow - take it for what it's worth.

Ah, a link perhaps would be good...

Uh...guys....
The post says 5.99 a POUND! not sq. ft.

I for one would like to know how many Sq. ft are in that pound.

Ok well lets do a little math here. Assuming that the leather is 12oz with 16oz being a pound and the price being 5.99 a pound we get 12/16*5.99 which comes to 4.49 a square foot, however if it is 16 oz leather then it ends up being 5.99 a square foot.

If you show the Leather Factory your SCA membership card you should get the wholesale price.

Just an FYI... Weaver also sells many of there hides by the pound (ex. Sole Leather Bends 14/16 oz. $4.80 per pound) The trick is when you start to compare prices you really have to know what your looking at so that you can compare apples to apples.
