New shipment of riveted maille just arrived!

Post by Steve S. »

Hi folks!

I just got another shipment of riveted maille shirts in yesterday - it looks excellent. They really seem to have the riveting down well.

These shirts contain nearly 25,000 rings, each of them riveted with wedge rivets in the European style. They are made of fully flattened 18GA mild steel wire, with a 3/8" ID. The shirts weigh a mere 18 pounds!

These are "large" shirts - they have a stretched-tight torso circumferance of ~70", which fits a man with a 50" chest wearing a gambeson just fine. I can tailor them smaller if you like.

I'm selling these shirts for $1195, plus shipping.

For more information, plus ordering info, please see:

Whoa! Damn, I gotta start pinching my pennies. The shirt I am working on is 63" around the chest and its fits me superbly. The 70"er would be even better.

I've got my own riveted maille tools, but the temptation to just buy some isn't helping my checkbook any...

I saw one at pennsic. They look great. I just wish I had 1200 to spare. But then even if I did I need to get a new car first.

I'm very pleased with this shipment. They are striking the rivets very securely. In fact, I washed to shirts last night, and on the first shirt I only found 3 rivets in the rinse bin. That's less than .01% of the 24,000+ rings. On the second shirt there were no rivets in the rinse bucket. You do find the occassional ring in the shirt that is in "backwards" (the rivet point points inwards instead of outwards) but I will cut those out and replace them before shipping to customers.

These shirts are very good - they look like pictures from museum catalogs! Image I'm very pleased.
