That's a nice knife, Jaeger, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone here jumped on it. But if you want to really have things snapped up on AA, I'd suggest that you direct your fine skills to more historical and less fantasy.

You garner good $ for historically accurate pieces.
Though simpler in construction & lines. They are more desirable especially if they copy a specific extant example.
I, personally, don't spend a penny on a knife or sword unless it has a nearly identical twin in a museum or private collection.
My last knife was from Arma Bohemia and was around $600. My last sword was from albion and was $700. I consider them each a steal at those prices.
If it has a riccasso and you cant show me a similar piece with a riccasso of similar shape, then i have no interest in it. But i collect. I don' t walk around Wasginton Dc with a knife on my belt.
So consider demand in your market.

Jaeger, did you used to display and sell in the art show at Loscon, many years ago?

It took a week or so for me to remember why the name seemed so familiar.

I used to do the miniature knives and swords that were in the crappy little glass topped box- Usually displayed right next to you, on the 3D table.

This is very good advice for those selling to the reenactment market. I can not tell you how many times I have seen documentation makes sales. Whether it be pottery, pouches, arms or armour. Often at Pennsic you will see xeroxes of the relevent page of Knives and Scabbards or Shoes and Pattens next to finished products.

Jaeger, you have always made very high quality work and I am glad to see you back. I understand your interest in controlling the innovation and creativity of your rather than exact reproductions. Details matter to the people willing to unbolt their wallet for a serious purchase. Even if it is the Quillion was taken from this extant example, grip from this one, and the blade shape from here. Keep it all within a 20-50 years span, show some references and you will pull in interest.

I am not as demanding as other collectors might be, in that I do not require something to be an exact copy of an original. As someone with a background in Archaeology, I think it is important to understand that whatever pieces we have represent a minuscule subset of what actually existed in any given period, since so little gets actually preserved and even fewer artefacts get recovered from the Archaeological record.

For me, the important thing is that something MIGHT have been done in period with a reasonable level of plausibility. If there is a piece in a museum that has a repoussed bear, I have no problem with someone deciding to do a repoussed deer or knight on it (or any other period motif). I think this still leaves a vast amount of room for personal creativity, while also allowing for historicity to play a part in the design.

Just my humble (and obviously flawed) opinion.

Your Execution is very good indeed! And one can make items to historic styles while not being a Xerox, you just have to learn what were the style parameters for that place and time and work generally with in them: If in Arkham in the century of the fruitbat only single edged blades were used with integral guards and no ricasso then making a double edged blade with a tsuba just doesn't "fit"; but there is still a lot of room to make a high quality blade that wouldn't have raised an eyebrow if it showed up at a cutler's of that time and place----save for the quality of the execution of your work.

No problem with offering things not historically based here; just some folks who do want such things are rather pining for them...(probably not as big a market as generi---daggers to tell the truth.)

The man knows what he's doing. Seriously, he is an artist not a copier. That's all he's saying. He likes being creative and I like the creations he makes as do many others. I don't see the sense in people jumping on a sales thread talking about how they don't want to buy the item up for sale. If you want a period specific piece and are willing to spend the money having a period specific yet custom item made just for you, then send the man an email and tell him what you want so he can tell you how much it will cost.

There is nothing generic about the blades he produces.

Thanks to everyone that has posted. I do from time to time come pretty close to period design so keep an eye if thats what you desire, in the meantime I aim to please myself, money is nice but I'm not starving. I have a web site thats 90% up and running, on the site you will see about 18 pieces that have already sold to a merchant that does renfairs.
