The shoes just look wrong. I think that it might be due to not using a last. Although Helmut uses a nonlasting process, which produces a better looking shoe.
Those shoes are wrong.

They look really good to me. They might look better if there was a pair of feet in them.
Certainly better than most (if not all) shoes I've seen in the SCA. Good price too.

I have a pair of the Norman riding boots without the sole/heel. I glued a piece of sole-weight leather on the inside, and overlapped the top edges and saddle stitched them. They work great for riding a horse, and look better than any of the "SCA merchant" conversions I have seen for sale, including the imported Indian turnshoes carried by some of the more authentically-oriented merchants.
