I'm a new fighter to the SCA, and I'm looking to get a full kit together, including a good helm with Visability for Heavy list combat. I'm looking to get everything within the next month or so. Is it possible? I'm a very hard person to fit stuff to. I'm kinda an odd shape...being 5'9" and 250 tends to do that. Are their any armor's out there that can aid me in this endeavor? Or anyone getting rid of some older stuff?

If I were you, considering the odd shape (I used to be that odd shape...) I'd get a "Large" size articulating elbows and knees from one of the armourers like www.ashcraftbaker.com and attach your own vams and cuisses... Something made of Heavy leather would be easiest to make on your own. And you will know that they will fit.

Coat of plates are adjustable...

Search around the websites out there... you'll find something affordable.

Also check with your local SCA group and see if they have a 'rusty key' or loaner equipment stash.

For a cheap helm with good visability you can't do wrong with a bar-grill bascinet. They're kinda ugly in my opinion, though.

But don't get discouraged if it takes you a lot longer to get your kit together - I'm still working on mine and I've been fighting two years now! (Well, three years if you count before I authorized. I'm legal, mind you - but I despise my gorget and have no shoulder protection. Working on it.)

Also, some armorers have 'starter kits' - a kidney belt, knees, elbows, gorget and helm or somesuch. I'm trying to remember where I saw them - try Red Falcon or Crimson Hammer or something like that...

Your last name seems to have some well the last name kind of has some weight if you are related to Super Duke Jade. He is a great person and a skilled Knight. There are many armourers who would do a lot for him. But, you should know if you want the perfect kit, you are going to have to definitly wait longer than a month for the perfect gear. I have been fighting for six years and I don't even have my perfect kit. Though I am working on it.

I just happen to be really picky.
